The handle of my toilet cistern snapped last night and I just bought a new one and replaced it myself instead of sending for the expensive plumber.

It only cost me £10.  Memories of my own DIY of yesteryear.

Well done you. It just shows that you are more capable than you give yourself credit for.

Ach thanks David

when things break in my house i repair them, instilled into me by my father, electrics, plumbing, appliances, computers, i dpnt mess with gas appliances of course, most little jobs can be done by anyone really, lot's of youtube vids on how.

Fender.  I'm a ladyyyyyy and riddled with pain so today was a great achievement for me

There are, but you still need a basic levelof practicality to be able to implement them.

Speaking as someone with absoutely no practical skills whatsoever, I always get help with any job in the house, big or small.

As Dirty Harry famously said - "A good man always knows his limitations ...".

As a DIYer myself whose capability has been affected by age and infirmity, I applaud your achievement and fully understand your joy.

Well done, long may you keep your hand in.

Well done jinny Joan. I feel your pain. I also get extremely frustrated that I am unable to crawl around in the loft and replace a simple  Portsmouth Valve washer etc. A simple sixpence rubber disc and £ 70+  plumber to replace it. Arthritis! Who needs it eh?
