Morning all. Here is a question for all you brain boxers out there. I have weighed my tin of £2 coins and its 2.36 kilos. Can anyone convert this for me into £'s

A £2 coin weighs exactly 12g so you have 196 or 197 coins meaning £392 or £394.

Well spotted, you need to take off the weight of the tin so take off £2 for each 12g it weighs.

Assuming the tin is weightless and all the coins are clean and unblemished, 2360 / 12 = 197 coins or £394

Personally, I'd have counted them, not weighed them. Lovely piles of dosh!

The tin that your money is in, is included in your 2.36KG overall weight. You need to weigh the tin empty and then substract that from 2.36Kg and then divide by 12g, and multiply by 2.

You probably have nearer £388.

Thanks all. The tin is very light when empty. I don't really want to open the tin as this will make me want to spend it. I just wanted an idea of how much may be in it.

To check you could weigh say 10 coins to find the weight of one

FF, we already know the weight of the coin, it's exactly 12g.

I know but i am suggesting a method for the future that could be used for other coins without having to ask for the wight of one or rely on Google

I save £2 coins...I love counting them. They go into coin bags,and I make a note of the total whenever I add a few more to the pot. Then I invest some of it in something I want. ;-)

FF, I would rather rely on the Royal Mint's figures for the weights. The 2p coin is twice the weight of the 1p coin meaning you can have a mixture and know the value. The same applies to the 5p and 10p coins.
