I have just seen this on the News. I personally will be disappointed when it closes, as I have traced school friends back as far as 1960 !

Anyone else use this site ?

I joined but didn't really use it. I was still in contact with all my school friends.
I joined and had a look round but never actually went looking for anyone.

No, can't see the point, I've never lost touch with anyone I've wanted to keep as a friend and have no curiosity about the rest.
I joined when it first started and found some of my old pupils from my teaching days. I don't use it now because it changed and became complicated, for no reason.
I think social media has overtaken it.
I used to when it first was about, especially as I had moved about a bit away from my home town. When Facebook came out though it seemed to make it a bit redundant for me so probably not been on it since around 2005/6 ish, maybe before that.

I wasn't sure it was still going.

I met up with a boy called Jim Butler, that I was in school with, from 1958 ! We also made our First Holy Communion together.

Through him, I have managed to trace others and also learn of the demise of some of my old friends, which was sad. Not sure how I would have done that without FR. I find it so much less bother than facebook, with its constant and irritating calls for people to be my "friend" whom I have never heard of !

What a pity it is closing down.
I did make good use of it years ago and went to 2 school reunions after contacting old school friends, although I am only still in contact with one of those friends.Once Facebook came along and you could contact people directly, it seemed to be the easiest option of the 2 and you can do a lot more on it.Friends Reunited is old hat now.
Facebook is much better. I was contacted last night by someone I haven't seen for over 20 years.
I joined when it first started.
As Chrissa1 says, it changed and became less user friendly and I stopped using it.
Facebook, for good or ill, seems to be the way to re-establish contacts or to keep them these days.
Shame, it started out doing really well!

Found some of my old school chums on this site.
I didn't know that, it's a shame although they ruined it when they changed it. I joined about 10 years ago and have been contacted by loads of my ex-pupils rather than school friends of my own and it's brought me a lot of pleasure.
That couple that started it were very wise to sell it when they did. It has been sold off over the years - I think ITV owned it at one point. Facebook has taken over the market nowadays. I did use it and am back in touch with a childhood friend through Friends Reunited. I also went to a school reunion that was advertised there and had a lovely time
It's about the only truly social site I've registered with. Never had a contact from someone I remembered though. Pity it's closing down. Still wonder how the others in my school year got on. Or even if they're still alive.
It was pretty good until they changed it.
The one advantage FR had over Facebook was that it was easier for women to try and find old school friends. Facebook is good, however as we get older and marry and change our names (sometimes first names too in my case at least!) it makes it impossible to trace a school friend from eons ago.
Two long lost nieces found me on FU, one of them from OZ, and a few old school friends.
Face Book a potential minefield for the gullible. FR was pretty innocent and helpful but got too difficult to negotiate. Don't care really. All my good friends that are still alive I can e-mail without my privacy, security being compromised.
Retro...Facebook is as private as you want it to be.
ummm
And if you are gullible and don't know how it works you drop yourself in a whole heap of grief. Some youngsters are not as streetwise and cool as they think they are. :-(
