Can be a pain in the backside at the best of times, but, our Postie turned up this morning and all we got was an advert for Domino's Pizza (I do know that there are steps that I can take to stop the flow of junk mail. I just wanted to share)!!!!!

Same here, the postie called and all we got was a leaflet for Chlas Olsen something on the lines of Ikea. Straight into the recylcling bin, what a waste of time.
All I got last week were begging letters from various charities. Only seem to get mail every other day.
I had begging letter last week, it was from the Mouth and Foot painters enclosing some Christmas cards painted by various people with disabilities. It preys on my concience to bin them and I don't want to buy them but they send them every year about this time.
You could try the Mail Preference Service

I have no idea if it actually works.
The MPS is upposed to stop addressed mail.

If you want to stop unaddressed mail, try this

Postie brought a selection today - Toys R Us, Morrisons, Lidl and something from British Gas about a new boiler. All grist to the recycling paper bin!
We had a stack of junk mail today, and not only that, it was posted halfway through the letter box, which left it half OPEN, letting all the cold air in! I was so cross, we put the lot straight into the recycling bin without even looking at it. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I RTS any junk mail. They soon stop!
I feel sorry for the postman. What a waste of his time.
I'm a bit keen on tearing off my name and address on junk letters before binning them. There is one insurance company who also prints your name address and date of birth on the enclosed forms which annoys me. The other leaflets go straight into the bin.
Here is a game the whole family can play !

We all have junk mail through our letter boxes every day, and most comes with a postage paid envelope. The over-riding principle of junk mail, or "Direct Marketing" as it is known in the trade, is the inherent cheapness of the practise. Companies post incredible quantities of junk very cheaply indeed, otherwise they couldn't afford to do it.

So, here is a way to fight back. Put the advertising leaflets of one company. in the return envelope of another. Take care to remove all traces of your ID of course. Those pizza leaflets are ideal for this purpose ! They don't pay anything until these envelope is returned, so this will hit them where it counts...in the wallet.

Everybody in the house can get involved with this, even toddlers. They will impart a special "stickiness" to the paperwork that will add extra value to the exercise !

If enough of us do it, it will make a difference, I guarantee !
Tilly...don't feel too sorry for the Postie...its his bread and butter these days.
Brilliant mikey I might try that.
askyourgran...it might be a little like peeing yourself, while wearing dark-coloured pants...you get a warm feeling but nobody notices !
We value junk mail- all helps to get the wood burning stove going.
If you get junk mail with your name and address on and you haven't passed on your details to the advertisers, check that you put 'x' in the box on your census form to stop you being added to the Edited Register. If you don't cross the relevant box, the Councils can sell your information on. This is where a lot of junk comes from. Don't think it should be allowed. DVLA also sell your information on.
The brightly coloured leaflets are great for collage - children love it!
If it wasn't for 'junk' mail and unaddressed flyers, the general delivery of post to individual households would quickly become uneconomic - we'd be back to collecting our mail from local delivery centres (I know - let's call them Post Offices).

I just don't understand why people get so het up about this - surely it's a simple enough matter to bin it if you aren't interested?

It's not desperately intrusive in the way that junk phone calls and texts are (I hate them both with a vengeance).

I get the stuff about flaps being left open (oooh matron indeed) - but that is just as likely with 'real' mail - as is the 'it builds up and tells people we are away' argument.

So why the angst - life surely is too short ...
So many places do, if you don't tick the right box online, etc, etc. I very rarely get junk mail and literally return it to them if i do.
sunny-dave , what do you mean 'we'd be back to collecting our post'?
I don't know anybody who has not had their mail delivered to the house and if my grandmother were alive she'd be 112.
