Junk Mail Through The Letterbox
29 Answers
Can be a pain in the backside at the best of times, but, our Postie turned up this morning and all we got was an advert for Domino's Pizza (I do know that there are steps that I can take to stop the flow of junk mail. I just wanted to share)!!!!!

Here is a game the whole family can play !
We all have junk mail through our letter boxes every day, and most comes with a postage paid envelope. The over-riding principle of junk mail, or "Direct Marketing" as it is known in the trade, is the inherent cheapness of the practise. Companies post incredible quantities of junk very cheaply indeed, otherwise they couldn't afford to do it.
So, here is a way to fight back. Put the advertising leaflets of one company. in the return envelope of another. Take care to remove all traces of your ID of course. Those pizza leaflets are ideal for this purpose ! They don't pay anything until these envelope is returned, so this will hit them where it counts...in the wallet.
Everybody in the house can get involved with this, even toddlers. They will impart a special "stickiness" to the paperwork that will add extra value to the exercise !
If enough of us do it, it will make a difference, I guarantee !

If you get junk mail with your name and address on and you haven't passed on your details to the advertisers, check that you put 'x' in the box on your census form to stop you being added to the Edited Register. If you don't cross the relevant box, the Councils can sell your information on. This is where a lot of junk comes from. Don't think it should be allowed. DVLA also sell your information on.
If it wasn't for 'junk' mail and unaddressed flyers, the general delivery of post to individual households would quickly become uneconomic - we'd be back to collecting our mail from local delivery centres (I know - let's call them Post Offices).
I just don't understand why people get so het up about this - surely it's a simple enough matter to bin it if you aren't interested?
It's not desperately intrusive in the way that junk phone calls and texts are (I hate them both with a vengeance).
I get the stuff about flaps being left open (oooh matron indeed) - but that is just as likely with 'real' mail - as is the 'it builds up and tells people we are away' argument.
So why the angst - life surely is too short ...
