I have 2 children aged 9 and 18months. My husband earns 35000 p.a. If I return to work, would we get any childcare allowance? The job I will be returning to pays only minimum wage, so I would be working for nothing or a minus amount if I have to use a nursery for childcare.

why don't you use the opportunity to stay at home with your babies? You probably won't get much help with childcare as 35000 is quite a lot for a household income. Does your work provide any support? What about part-time/evening work? Your employer has to consider flexible ways of working now.

Good luck - check your local council website too

Hi There

I think the ceiling is a gross income of 55k but I would check this before quoting me!!

You will be entitled to the child tax credit which I think is 48 per month.  It really depends on the total amount of child care costs you would be paying.

FIrst of all try the Inland Revenue site, I think they have a quick calculator on there.

Another one to try is www.entitledto.co.uk

call 0845 300 3900. The tax credit people are extremely helpful (in my experience) and will do their very best to help
