Onwards and Downwards Continues in June 2013

Hello all,

Sick of talking about the weather so as per a brilliant suggestion from xstitcher, what is your favourite slimming salad to eat in the summer (or any time of year).

Let's see who can put the most interesting ingredients together that are still low calory.

We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Thanks Ed. Out top loser is Jan who has lost over 6 stone. She has had quite a bad time with losing her husband and some problems with her foot but she perseveres.

Wow I didn't realise, that is an amazing acheivment in such hard times. Well done to Jan.

As for the question, hmmmm. I am not a massive fan of salad for it's own sake but I love simple stuff like a load of shredded lettuce, chopped up carrots, peppers (all colours) a bit of chopped up red onion and how about some avacado yumm...

OK over to you guys.
Thanks ED. I found this tropical salad somewhere and it is quite fun....shred you lettuce and add grapefruit secions, sliced mushrooms, red onions or the sweet salad onions, mango pieces...if you can get them and for your dressing mix lemon juice with a touch of sweetner and a few drops of oil. Of course you can add or take away to your heart's desire...
A pasta, prawn and celery avocado salad.

use a large bowl add a good drizzle of olive oil, lemon juice freshly ground black pepper and sea salt.

cube the avocado and add to the bowl, the lemon juice helps stop the avocado going brown and also makes a nice dressing, give it a stir to coat then add the chopped celery and stir again.

boil some pasta, i use fusilli tricolore, when cooked put in the bowl and give a stir to coat everything again.

then add the prawns and mix again so everything gets coated in the olive oil and lemon juice.

give another little squirt of lemon juice over the top of all the ingredients and then top with a sprinkle of some chopped mixed nuts.

I always have a little dollop of salad cream on the side of the plate to dip each forkful in.

remember to give a gentle stir/mix after adding each ingredient to coat them all.

Dave.
I always try to vary my salads. I am not a constant lover of them but needs must. I like sweet satsumas or grapes with it .I have made my own coleslaw with the 0% total and I like my co-ops own one that is nil.
Good idea that Wendilla with total for the cole slaw which I love. Your salad sounds good Webbo but what with salad cream, avacado and olive oil it might be pointing to the naughty step for us....
I should have said the pasta should be cold, and xstitcher salad cream is optional. :-)

Dave.
Okay...............
I was just about to say I keep well away from salad cream as I am not content with just a spoonful so I don't buy it.
I like green grapes and crispy apple in my salad. Yum!
I like salad cream on my salad, it's just that I don't like any salad under my salad cream. Now replace it with a slice of bread, margarine, and a slice of ham, and we might be getting somewhere. Could tolerate a few tomatoes though. Perhaps a sprinkling of lo salt too.
When I do my coleslaw I add apple satsuma grape red onion and any left over fruit I have.
Trust you OG......how about salad cream soup???
Pickled onions, warm mushrooms cooked in a little soy sauce, and thinly slices babybel light cheese!!! Plenty of green leaves, cherry toms and Q .... delicious ............... can use light mozzarella instead if you wish. Might sound an odd combination, but don't knock it 'til you've tried it!!
Welcome March-Hare are you joining us on a wednesday morning with your weight loss or gain. This is when most of us get together with our moans. I notice you are doing SW on line. which I would say is a waste of money . There are plenty recipies and idea without having to pay. Xstticher and I have ran this for well over 3 years and have had lots of ideas from people on our posts. look forward to hearing from you on Wednesday.
I should have said well over 2 years .
This has reminded me that I said I'd start the 5:2 diet when I came back from holiday
Get cracking then Boxtops. Don't know much about that diet .
People who are on it say it's good. You eat normally but sensibly for 5 days, then on the other 2 days you only eat 500-600 calories.

I might wait til I retire, it would be easier to avoid temptation then....
don't like that idea of 500 calories for 2 days but it might be ok for some people .I normally keep 2 days for a treat so no good for me.
