What age should you start having the talk to your kids about sex and how old were you when you started being aware of the whole thing?

Didn't need to have the 'talk'. They came to me with questions and I answered them.

Although I did refuse to tell my 10 year old what a pearl necklace was.

They have older cousins who have always told them things. They would come to me to confirm if they were lying or not. If I said it was true the chances are they would walk away saying....'errrrrrrr that's disgusting, TRAMPS'....

We got formal education at school at about 10 or 11, but I remeber having all sorts of ideas (most of them wrong) gathered in the playground before then. We have always answered any questions about babies honestly but appropriate to their age with my kids and my husband went through a good book with the boys when they started school as we didn't want them to start of with a load of misinformation.

Agree with ummm, when they start asking questions and then just give them the information they ask for without elaborating. My son was three when he first asked how babies got into Mummy's tum and I gave him the correct answer. He took in on board and asked no further questions. It should all be brought into natural conversation and it will develop as they get older. It's shouldn't be difficult if children are brought up to discuss things with their parents.

The reason my kids asked was because on the simpsons Lisa mentioned something about her pearl necklace and I laughed. They have been bugging me ever since.

Although I am open with them things like that is taking it a it too far.
