I've been going out with my gf for 3 years and have started back smoking again - am 23 and had given up 2 years ago. I knew it annoyed her when I smoked before and she encouraged me to give up. I'm going through a stressful time righ now and don't want to give up. I don't smoke around her too much but she makes a point of always saying she knows I've been smoking and with the smoking ban now pulls a face when I go out to have a smoke when we are in a pub. Is she been over the top about it now? I still go to the gym and play footie so I do look after myself in other ways.

I smoke and my fella doesnt, he used to but gave up, he doesnt stop naggin me about it, and to be honest it gets on my tits....if I wanna smoke, I will, end of!!!
see lil 75, told you the smoke gets all over the place....even tits it seems.
madmaggot- did you not think of washing your clothes instead?

Jason- to be honest, I, despite being a smoker myself, think you need to sort out why it is you're stressed in the first place. As it is you seem to be just smoking and not dealing with the issues. Which is fine in itself I guess, but you're atrributing the stress to you taking this habit up again.

Lastly- It always amuses me how people feel that it's perfectly fine to be rather insulting towards smokers and see this as acceptable. If I was fat due to over-eating- would they be so nastily aggressive?
Could be worse BOO - imagine a fat, garlic breath, smoking veggie - scyually you would probably explode!! lol
And that horrid hacking wracking early morning cough.

My neighbour is only in her 30s but it's every morning, coughing her guts up.
What about Jeanne Calment, the French lady, who gave up smoking at 120yrs old and died aged a couple of days short of 121yrs. Makes you think !!!
Boo....good point, but didn't know that "fat" transfered itself to passive onlookers and partners.........will watch that in future.
Not everyone gets a cough...I certainly dont wake up in the morning couphing my guts up....at the end of the day we all know its bad for you and if it was that easy to stop we all would in an instant.

Have to agree with BOO post also!
Not all smokers cheerily blow their smoke at others sqad, I smoke outside. Despite what others think, we aren't all in the habit of puffing directly into our children/dogs/partners faces.
lil75 - I smoked at least 40 a day for more than 40 years.

As soon as the doctor told me I had asthma I stopped.
I stopped 12 years ago when I found out I was pregnant
boo....have you mixed up my reply with someone else's ?
Good for you Ethel!
The point here is not the smoking but actually WANTING TO START AGAIN after stopping!!!!
If one is addicted, fair enough. But, really?

Ethel, thats great, well done!

I did stop for 4 years, but started again, would love to quit and the nagging from everyone really doesnt help...I know what I have to do, and will do it when im mentally prepared, if you know what I mean
No sqad- you said you didn't know that fat transfered itself to others, meaning that smoking does. I was pointing out that despite my clothes and probably breath smelling, I don't consider my smoking to be a problem towards my loved ones- I smoke outside, well away from them.
I do, lil - I tried many, many times to stop smoking and failed but the last time (over 10 years ago) was easy. I think it's because I was absolutely determined.

I'm a lot better off! If I were still smoking I'd be spending around 11 a day - that's 4015 per year at the very least.
Got it.
Boo - when my smoking visitors hang their coats in my cloakroom it smells strongly of cigarette smoke in there for days afterwards. I never realised when I smoked just how strongly it does smell.
I have some sympathy for smokers (and I don't mean to sound patronising, honestly).

In my opinion, they get terribly ripped off, paying an absolute fortune in tax on them. I would be miffed having to pay all that tax on a pack of fags.

The only time I would feel displeased about a smoker, is when I am eating near one. Otherwise, if they enjoy it and they know the risks involved, it's up to them.
Yes Ethel, when I gave up before, I was so sick of the smell, and I smoked a lot, so much so, it made me feel ill, so woke up one day and decided to stop...just like that, I am going to do it again, but have to get myself in the right frame of mind.....Jason85, you need to look at why your smoking again, and really try and sort out the root of the problem, just thought ide share with all you smokers, my uncle was a smoker for years and is dying of lung and bone cancer...there is nothing they can do....I see him the other week and asked him if his lungs felt any different, he said no, which is bloody scary, thats why he has the secondary cancer in his bones, cos he didnt even know he had lung cancer
