I've been going out with my gf for 3 years and have started back smoking again - am 23 and had given up 2 years ago. I knew it annoyed her when I smoked before and she encouraged me to give up. I'm going through a stressful time righ now and don't want to give up. I don't smoke around her too much but she makes a point of always saying she knows I've been smoking and with the smoking ban now pulls a face when I go out to have a smoke when we are in a pub. Is she been over the top about it now? I still go to the gym and play footie so I do look after myself in other ways.

No, she's not being over the top.

You look stupid with a cigarette hanging out of your mouth.
You smell - your clothes and hair reek and kissing you would be horrible for her. And it is off to leave her in the pub because you just have to have a fag.

No, your girlfriend is not "over the top", apart from the health hazards, it is an antisocial habit affecting your clothes, your breath, the curtains in the house, furniture and even you hair.
Happy New Year.
Sorry ethel, I was one minute behind you.
No, she's not being over the top. If stress's made you go back to smoking, then not only is the habit offensive to your girlfriend, but it makes you look weak and unable to cope with what life throws at us.
Having said that, I know it can be very difficult to give up, but if you did it once, you can do it again. Good luck!
Imagine kissing an old ashtray and you might have an idea of what it's like for her
I can't really say I blame her. She goes out to the pub with her bloke, he leaves her on her own while he nips out for fag, and then she has to go home with someone who smells like an old ashtray. Charming!

If you really can't do the stress without the fags, then use a fag shaped inhalator and/or get some help from the doctor - for the habit and for the stress.

I've been having this exact same conversation with my son today. He gave up too, and then started again, he says he can't give up as he is going through a stressful time at the moment. He is 26 and I feel for him but it is just so bad for you, plus it stinks!! He seems to really hold the smell on his breath so it must be far worse for a girlfriend.
Well, so far you have all politically correct answers - what else did you expect?

I think she might bear with you a little if you are smoking through a bad time, provided it is just short-term.
Just give up as you will have health problems
later on in your life ..and ciggies are about 5 ..
put the money in a jar towards a holiday ...
good luck ...
gormless....if by "politically correct answers" you mean "blatantly obvious" then I agree.

There are no indications for short term smoking....they do not exist.
no such thing as part time smoking gormless, you may deem people's opinions as politically correct because its not what you want to hear. the long and short of it is that for a non smoker the smell of a smoker is not good whether they want to believe it or not.

Have you thought of encouraging her to smoke too? That way she won't be on her own in the pub whilst you nip out for a quick 'un. Infact, actively encourage her- I think it's quite selfish of her to sit in a nice warm pub whilat you have to shiver on its doorstep.
get a niqutine inhilator

otherwise youre using the cigys a s an excuse

smarten up

or lose the gf

your choice?
Boo......LOL..
Hi everyone, since I gave up in September, and I am now a NON smoker, I have to say I can't stand the smell.
Truth be told I have been avoiding my smoking friends and their houses like the plaque, forgotten how to spell it.
I was coming away with a sore throat, figure that.
I can smell someone smoking at 10 paces, even outside.
They say former smokers are less tolerable and for me I have become unbearable, and want to keep on smelling sweet, as well as the health hazards.

Happy New Year to you all xxxxxxx
