Just finished my penultimate essay EVER. Began to print it, and all of a sudden my printer told me its parts had expired, and it needed servicing.
My deadline is tomorrow, my stupid laptop only has Works, so all my work is typed on Works Word Processor, which no other damn machine recognises. I am THIS CLOSE to a breakdown.
Not my weekend...Any suggestions are thoroughly welcome! At the moment, all I can do is dig out the Works software CD, load it onto my work computer and try and print from there.
*sigh*

skyep, not so well hun, but thanks for your concern. I honestly have just had it up to here (gestures "here"!) with it all! My laptop has been knackered for 18 months but I have never had time to send it back, as I rely on it to do my study...And now the printer gives up the ghost! After only 3 years! And it's Epson, not Cheapson!

It won't take long to install Works (depending on how old your laptop is). You could try saving your work as a text file, but you would lose all your formatting ie paragraphs, page breaks etc. I speak from experience - my computer went belly up, but most of my documents were on the secondary hard drive - yipee! then I realised Word had gone, so all my documents were in a format the computer couldn't read, and my copy of Office had disappeared into the depths of one of my teenage son's bedrooms. I downloaded openoffice which did help - don't know if that would help you.
Hello taichiperson, thank you for your advice :)
I have the Works instalment disc in my hot little hand! So I wil get the key to the office tonight and drive through there.
I thought about copy and pasting into a WordPad document, but as you say, I would have to redo all the formatting etc.
Hope you didn't lose anything of importance.

Hey hun, just tried to give you a call :(
Can you save the file and email it over? Just spoken to Alan, and he has said he will do his best to convert it to a MS Word document or some other format that will be of help so you can print it off somewhere else?
Will do what we can to help you hun,

Hey The Builder, I could but I don't know anyone else with Works, and I don't want to use other peoples' resources up either!
wiggal, hello hun, no idea where I have put my phone down! Thank you so much for your kind offer :) You are both lovely. If I can't get to work tonight I will drop you a text (on finding my phone!) and email you the documents over. I really appreciate your thoughts, thank you *hugs* How are you both, chick?

Dont worry about using Alans resources hun, he is Mr PC man lol! Its his job and his hobby and he loves being able to help people out!
You can email it over now if you like and he can have a look to see if he can have a go, to save you spending the rest of your day being stressed out? Even if you get your printer sorted, it would be hadny to have the file in a MS format for future?
We are both good ta hun, Alan has mowed the grass in the garden, and we will be having a BBQ in a bit!

Hey knobby (fred, *lol*!) I haven't either, but trust it to happen to me eh!
It wouldn't let me even override it, as you suggest. I wouldn't have minded 'ragging' it for another day to get that final bit of use out of it, but it is resolutely dead. Killed. Gone.
As you suggest, I will save in on my stick and see if I can get a mate to print it out. It's just a bit wordy that's all. Also, lovely wiggal and her lovely bf are helping out :)
