My friend came off the pill with the intention of getting pregnant nine months ago. However, she has not had a period since then. Does anyone know the cause of this? Can you still get pregnant if you hadn't had a period?

Thanks!

It is not unusual for the body to take some time to adjust after coming off the pill.  It is thought it can take anything from 6 mths to a year for it to come out of your system, perhaps longer if she was given the contraceptive injection.  Nine months is quite a long time for your friend not to have a period, and as she is trying for a baby it may well be worth her going to the doctors to discuss this.  However, some doctors may not act on this until she has been trying for a year.  No periods, do generally mean, she’s not been ovulating, so that will be why she’s not yet got pregnant. In the meantime, it is still possible to get pregnant, because just because she hasn’t had a period yet, doesn’t mean she won’t ovulate soon.
