Hello! I assume this is the right category and I'd really appreciate some advice please as I'm getting myself quite worried. I have posted on AB before about my lack of sex drive and I finally decided to come off the pill after 7 years to see whether this was affecting it. After finishing it I had two "normal" periods (came on my period on the day I normally would have done), but then we had an accident where the condom split. I took the morning after pill the next morning, exactly two weeks after the start of my latest period. After I took the MAP, I started bleeding six days later- usually too soon for my period and it was also a lot lighter. Now it has been five weeks since that bleed and obviously I'm starting to worry. Could it be moy body still adjusting to coming off the pill even though I've had two normal periods since or because of the MAP?

What I really need to know is is it too soon to take a test and hopefully put my mind at ease? Thank you in advance, c~s

Firstly after 7 years Id expect itd take a while to get back to regular periods.

you took the morning after pill during the first 72 hours after sex? the earlier you take it the more reliable it is. PLus you bled after that, also a possible good sign.

After 5 weeks it should be ok to take a pregnancy test and get a reliable result. If negative then take another in a week if period still hasnt arrived.

Thank you for taking the time to reply redcrx. Yes, I took the MAP about 14 hours after the "mishap" and I bled for almost as long as I would have normally but nowhere near as heavily. I think I will take a test for reassurance. Thanks once again.
take a test, if you fell pregnant at that time then your hormones would be sufficient to give a good result now i expect.

It often happens that the MAP can bring on an early period that may be lighter.

Only real way to find out is to test until your period arrives though.

Good Luck.

Thanks again red. I'm very grateful. I shall buy a test later today.
how did you get on?

Good morning redcrx! Funnily enough I was just signing into AnswerBank when my email came through to say you had answered.

I took the test this morning and thankfully it was negative. I was shaking like a leaf! I bought a pack of two in case my period doesn't make an appearance within the next few weeks.

Now I'm going to find a different method of contraception, it's just a bit of a pain as I think they all have the potential to affect your sex drive and that's why I came off the pill. I've heard quite good things about the little implant thery put in your arm so I'll check on the side effects of that.

Once again red, thanks for your advice, it was very reassuring.
Im so pleased that you got a negative. Id say that its unlikely youll get a positive now but test again in a week and then perhaps see you family planning nurse.

before trying the implant why not take a look at different types of pill. There are some that have side effects like weight gain, or loss of sex drive, but some work the other way :)

At the end of the day, they are all invasive and will have some effect on your body. Have you considered just continuing with condoms or perhaps a coil?

My period has just made it's welcome appearance. I hope that isn't too mucn info for this category ? Maybe it was the relief that brought it on.

I think I will stick woth condoms until I've done a bit more research red. I thought all pills affected you in the same way so I'll go to my GP- I think. Thanks once again. Hopefully I won't have to but I'll know where to come next time. :-)
Hi curly~sue! I don't know if it is any help to you, but I have the Implanon implant in my arm and it certainly hasn't affected my sex drive, if anything it has increased it! I found that on the pill my sex drive was a lot lower. Hope it all gets sorted out for you. Daffi x
