What's happened to my knee?

For the last couple of weeks, when I kneel down, I get a sharp stabby pain near the front of my left knee. It feels like I've knelt on a stone, but there is nothing there. Many years ago, I knelt on a hard surface on a particularly knobbly button - it's the same "yaroo! ouch!" pain. I can't see anything from the outside of the knee - what could it be?

(Sensible answers only, please - it hurts...)

My partner had something that he described in a similar way. He had a scan and there was a small cyst which was removed by keyhole surgery. I'm sure there are lots of things it might be, but worth speaking to your GP.

jno, thanks, but it doesn't hurt at all when I am not kneeling on it.. (I know, don't do it then...)
sorry about that, boxy, I did search for 'pain while kneeling' and didn't notice that the results didn't mention kneeling after all... bursitis maybe? (Housemaid's knee, if I may be so vulgar).

Obviously, stay away from Buckingham Palace for a while
are you praying a lot box ?
I have plantar fasciitis which as I understand it means I have some sort of tissue nodule thing which obviously causes me pain when I walk. I have a CAM hip impingment which (again as I understand it) means that I have some sort of firbrous tissue nodule on my hip joint which is causing friction and pain. I think these nodules that form are actually the bodies way of trying to repair damage but unfortunately, they absolutely don't. I was just wondering if maybe you've hurt yourself previously and perhaps you have some sort of nodule which causes pain when you lean on it.... NAturally \i'm likely be talking out of my proverbial but nodules are getting blamed for quite a lot in my life at the moment!

LOL anne, if I had a hassock it wouldn't hurt quite so much!
you could do it standing up ?????????????????
Question Author
Thanks china, I did wonder if it was some sort of chipped bone. I think I'll keep it a bit and see if it goes away - kneeling is not a favourite pastime for me. Jno - housemaid's knee - yeah right - I needed a dictionary to understand jem's oven-cleaning thread the other day!

anne - tut ;-)
Well if it's perhaps just an inflamation you could take some 'profens and do the ice thing for a week and see if that helps? If not then I guess you might have to pop down to the quacks... ANd if you're anything like me (NHS employer) then I can guess your feelings on seeing doctors on your day off! Bit of a busmans holiday really isn't it?! :c)
Try squatting - just as effective.

LOL, yes china, I'd email him for an opinion (see sqad's earlier thread) but my fave GP has just retired...
I'm about to change mine. I'd have no problem emailing my other GP but need to find my feet with this new lot first. Mind you, once I'm happy then that's it, I'm terribly hard to get rid of... My GP has been in dulwich for the last 3 years from when I lived there, I live in central LOndon, I'm only changing cause of the damn op!
Question Author
Changing is supposed to be easier these days, so it is rumoured....
Difficult to say, without an examination and even then may be equivocal.........it could well be a loose body in the knee joint, but I agree with China. Take a NSAID to start with and monitor the situation...... if it doesn´t improve.....see your GP
