Grants whisky, currently two for £20.00 up here in Scotland OR

Relaxation and deep breathing: lying in bed start by pulling your toes back towards you while trying to push your heels away for 5 secs then relax. Repeat with calfs (calves?) thighs, butt, stomach, clenched fists, shrugged shoulders and relax.
Now breathe in through your nose for a count of three then out through your mouth for a count of four or five. Repeat until you feel relaxed then concentrate on the regular in/out of ordinary breathing.
See you in the morning :D

I shall try what you suggest Douglas. Thank you for yourn advice.
I hope it works for you, goodnight.
You could try watching either the X Factor or Strictly Come Dancing. Either of those methods should soon see you in the land of nod.
Its just insomnia, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it!!!

just sit precariously on the edge of the bed, you will soon drop off!

Sorry, I couldn't resist :-)

ok, im getting my coat :-(
St Johns Wort cured mine, turns out my insomnia was due to the winter blues kicking in. It is a herbal tablet, but relaxes me.

I don't know if you get the blues or not, but may be worth a try? Quite cheap in Sainsbury's. I tried Nytol first but had terrible dreams with them, Now, my husband says how well I sleep, because he can hear me!
Melatonin is good, and is natural.
talk to my wife, 10 mins you'll be snoring!! (lol love you really)
Do you have insomnia, or are you just sleeping a the wrong time ?
I mean, do you have difficulty in getting off to sleep then sleep in, or are you just not sleeping at all ?
If you're not sleeping at all, then you probably could do with a check up from the GP.
If it's that you're sleeping at the wrong times, then making yourself get up at whatever hour would be normal for you 7am, 8am etc no matter how little sleep you have had should eventually get you right. Then no cat-napping during the day. It's hard to do, but it works.
Lettuce has a naturally occuring sedative in it called Lectucarium which has apparently been likened to opium.
i made cakes whe i couldnt sleep. the effort of doing it and the smell slowley made me drift off. made some lovely little batches at about 4 in the morning once. yum!

Daft I know but I used to try and say in my head, all the words of the NATO Phonic alphabet. Alpha, Bravo, Charlie etc. It worked but only for as long until I got it off pat.

Also, try to think of a famous person that you can't remember but can see in your mind, by going through the alphabet letter by letter.

I used to drop off, probably because it was so boring.

Usually if i feel a bit hyped but overtired, i just lay on the sofa, nice pillow... watch some tv and usually drift off within 10 mins......you could try that. :0)
Warm bath and some cheese.

Although cheese was thought to give you bad dreams. It's actually a myth. Whatever's in it helps release whatever hormone (!) that aids sleep.
tryptophan
I always found that a good dose of carbohydrate worked,- typically a few lettuce sandwiches with/without onion and a nice Cold glass of milk made me nice n dozy.before bedtime. Furhter to that -- force yourself to watch a very boring movie !
best of luck and let us know how it goes !
