Hi Out there...feeling a bit down. Today was my weekly weigh in and have again put on 1 lb. making it a total of 6 pounds in a couple of months. I have doing Rosemary Connely since last Sept and managed to loose 10 kilos.
My doctor had given me pills to help keep my hunger down ( I didn't think they did) but now they have been taken off the market. (can't remember their name)

I am eating the same and exercising every day (am 70 yrs old) so I just wanted some support really. I shall keep on of course but it is so annoying to see numbers going the wrong way.

I'll try the grapefruit juice, Wendilla but I'll need to close my eyes and knock it back like medicine ; )

Will try and write down what I eat , as Dolly said maybe the thought of having to write it down will put me off having it.

look at the chart link, yingyang, I do find it concentrates the mind if you write before you eat rather than afterwards!!

I can see what you mean; writing it down in advance would help with my portion sizes at meals for example; but my biggest problem is all the inbetween meal things that I eat with hardly any thought, just because they'e there.
I think at this stage I need the fright of having to see exactly how many extra calories a day are slipping down unnoticed and when my weakest points are.

For those of us who have just started this seriously there's probably going to be a few weeks of trying different systems and plans until we find whatever it is that works for us.
cut down on carbohydrate, don't eat a meal within 4 hours of going to bed and don't stay up late.

This is a good time yinyang to clean out all the naughty foods, bin them, give them away but don't have them around as temptation. Make up ready snacks.....one bit for the morning and one bit for the afternoon......carrots, celery stick, a handful of raisins etc. Like you this is my hardest part of the onwards and downwards but if I can do it, anybody can. I know that my weakest time is from 4pm until 6pm so I always try to be doing something that will keep me engaged and not think of food....very difficult most of the time.
That's right xstitcher that is what I did when I decided to start I gave all the things I should not eat to the kids. It would not be easy for anyone with children in the house as you would be tempted. When the schools have been out I have my grandson here in the week and I have to have things for him so I have what is called his secret box and I do not take anything from it but one night when his dad picked him up he had left 4 smarties on my small table and they worried me the whole evening. I should have put them straight in the box when I saw them .But finally I gave in and ate them but I would not have gone to the box for them . That's how easy it is to stray.
Hi xstitcher and others - I agree totally with you x-stitcher, I can diet perfectly well from when I wake up until about 4pm and then I go into pig-mode, but then can happily have supper and snack on into the evening; I've been trying to find things to do before supper to distract myself, and also eating supper more slowly, trying to savour every mouthful, and have a glass of water with it. I know what I should be doing, I've been diabetic for 16 years or so now, and have had masses of information regarding health and diet over the years, but just lack will-power. I'm a real yo-yo dieter, there really aren't many diets or gimmicks that I haven't tried, but always end up putting all the weight (and more!) back on! Right, that's my whinge out of the way - how's everyone else doing? I hope that it's all going well, weekends always seem more difficult, usually because one tends to end up thinking that you can re-start the diet on Monday!

When I get tempted I keep saying to myself...slippery slope, slippery slope. It is so easy to fall back but then I think of the months I have spent getting this far and that is usually enough to keep me on track. It was snacking that was my downfall.

That is so right what jomifl says about getting to bed early....the idea is to get to sleep before you get hungry again. I think of food most of the time and I know I'm not hungry, just obscessed...help.
That's where the food record helps me, with the in-between things - where I can look back at a day and see I ate 4 cereal bars during the day instead of the 2 I actually remember... etc!
Latest trick...when about to go into munch mode......manicure darlings....can't do anything with wet nail polish...and thats another bit of the body looking nice....a french takes a while to do properly and is subtle if you are older too...

Nice idea rowan... another trick if you feel bored/hungry is to take a nap!
I have also learned that quite often when I think I'm hungry or nibbly, I'm actually thirsty - so I make sure I keep water on my desk at work and I try to drink more at home instead of foraging for sweet things. I do admit to two rounds of toast and honey late last night, after the Quiz!
Yes boxtops how true that is as I always keep water beside me and it's more often you are thirsty and not hungry. I don't drink loads of water as they say in some diets.
I also do the coffee ritual...espresso machine...nice cup and saucer...never have eaten with good coffee but the intensity of the flavour seems to switch off my tastebuds for a while

All these lastest ideas are really good and I do them all. I honestly hand on heart stick to my food rules every day.I think I have "sinned" only 3 or 4 times.....there really is nothing to sin with in this house and if there is I try and freeze it. I loved your story about the smarties Wendilla. I have never been keen on chocolate or sweets and snacking on savories takes more time, thus more thought as to what you are doing and then you are not so likely to do it.

I have just been reading in health and fitness about Grapefruit juice. I have been telling you that I drink it every morning. It seems that if you are on certain medication you are not supposed to drink it . I am not on any medication but would just like to point this out to people that are. Apparently this can be found by googling it.
xstitcher, trouble is with two 8 year olds in the house there's always going to be biscuits and nice things lying about. I've been very impressed with my willpower for the last week or so though - I just keep thinking of the lovely dress I've seen in Monsoon that I'd like to wear at Christmas.

yeah i believe you shouldnt have grapefruit juice or eat grapefruits if you are on blood pressure tablets ie simvasatin.
but, saying that, my aunty always has half a grapefruit every morning for her breakfast and shes on statins for her bp.
when she mentioned it to her doctor, he said it was ok, because she is not taking them together - she has her tablet at night before bed and eats the grapefruit a few hours after in the morning when she gets up.
not sure if this is correct - but its what her doc said anyway.
I take Simvastatin for lowering cholesterol, and it says in large letters on the front of the packet "Avoid consumption of grapefruit." It's not a blood pressure pill.
