Hi Out there...feeling a bit down. Today was my weekly weigh in and have again put on 1 lb. making it a total of 6 pounds in a couple of months. I have doing Rosemary Connely since last Sept and managed to loose 10 kilos.
My doctor had given me pills to help keep my hunger down ( I didn't think they did) but now they have been taken off the market. (can't remember their name)

I am eating the same and exercising every day (am 70 yrs old) so I just wanted some support really. I shall keep on of course but it is so annoying to see numbers going the wrong way.

do you really need to lose weight? I would hope at 70, I wouldn't really care less!

if it's for health reasons go back to your doc for advice. there are lots of diet clinics/groups.. perhaps you just need to try something new?

best of luck, and good on you for caring :o)
Hi xstitcher - that's a very deflating feeling isn't it - you keep on the right track and do all the right things and it goes up instead of down. Have you checked with your doctor and does s/he have any thought as to why this might be happening ??

Mind you, if it had been me, I've have tossed the whole thing in the corner by now - no staying power !!

I'm glad you posted again [ though perhaps not with this problem ] as it jogged my brain - I meant to answer your query in Hobbies and now I'll do so.

best of luck - you may find it's a 'temporary thing' - fingers crossed for you

Hi, Thanks for both answers. Yes I needed to do it for health reasons. I wouldn't do it for vanity believe me ! I've had no weight problems until about 2 years ago and then I stopped smoking and you can guess the rest. Oh boy.....running out of breath, back aches etc so loosing weight wasn't an option. All the bad bits are still a thing of the past so hopefully as you say it might be a temporary set back (you hear talk of water retention) I just wanted some pats on the back which both of you very generously gave me.
I'll tell you what happens next week if you like.
Hi I am in your age group and I have found it difficult to keep my weight down since I stopped smoking 12 years ago. I did the Weighwatchers years ago but this time I have been on a healthy eating plan just cutting out the fatty foods and not eating crap food. In 7 weeks I have lost a stone and 1 lb and I average 2lbs loss one week and 1 lb the next then 2lbs but this week I stayed the same but I have given myself a target of another stone before my birthday end of oct..I certainly feel better for it.I don't believe in these diet classes anymore as you can do it yourself just give yourself a target date. Maybe easier said that done but it has worked for me . Lots of chicken fish plenty veg .I replaced chips for a few wedges . If you like battered fish buy the simply fish and have a treat once a week.I feel I will be fine with just another stone off.All the best don't give up because if you do you have to start all over again and no way am I going to undo the good work I have done.
good on you both - you deserve more than back pats, you're brilliant

I have no will power what so ever and needless to say, I need to lose weight

pity we couldn't work out some way of running a support group through AB - support from others is essential
I have lost 7lbs in two weeks by cutting out white bread, fried foods and all other saturated fats. I'm actually very surprised at how easy it has been. I'm not at all an active person due to health issues and as my inactivity has progressed the weight piled on. I am determined to get back to my usual weight of 8st before christmas.
Good luck to all you ladies who are also trying to lose weight.
Yes support is essiential. I felt on top of the world when a neighbour had been a way for 4 weeks and she noticed the difference.. It is difficult you just have to make your mind up and not give up . I have given up many times just after a few pounds but I am determined this time that I am not going to have to start all over again. Yes would be nice to have a support thread .I kept in touch with 2 replies 2 years ago but they did not reply back so they must have given up. I weigh myself on a wednesday so if I have had a treat at weekend I have a few days to rectify it .I need to lose just over 2 stone.
Daffy that was my first thing I cut out bread. I love my toast with a boiled egg 2 or 3 times a week but I buy the lower fat one from Morrisons now.Slices are not so big and it's nice and crispy when toasted.
I'm still eating bread, just the weight watchers wholemeal one. My other half and our son have also been converted to it, they both agree it is much tastier than white bread.
Yes I sometimes have them but don't expect to lose that amount of weight every 2 weeks .The quicker you lose it the quicker you will put it back on just eat healthily. I am quite happy with the regular 1 lb and 2 lb.And eating good variety of food. As I stayed the same last week I expect to lose 2 this week . I hope.
Your not really doing anything wrong. You will always hit a "Wall" when trying to lose weight or exercise, wheather it's improving fitness, gaining muscle or trying to lose that extra pound.
Keep doing what your doing, and only if you feel up to it try doing just a little more exercise, if walking do half a mile more than you usually do, but don't over do it. The body very quickly gets use to doing the same routine every day so try and change it slightly.
My hat is of to you that at 70, your still willing to do something about your appearance. Don't let it get you down, do something that makes you feeling good, I think that is just as important.
Good luck and best of wishes.
Check this post on wednesday and I will let you know and also what you have done .
I'll be checking back (i've subscribed to the post) and i'll let you know what I have managed to lose (if anything).
ok good luck .Xstitcher are you going to do the same?

Yes I'll do the same and change my weigh in day to Wed also. I eat low fat (under 6% fat) steamed fish only with low fat white dill sauces, lots of veg....love it, meat again lo fat and very seldom. Have eaten so much chicken that am sprouting feathers but starting to enjoy it. I have quite a few of Rosemary's cookbooks which are wonderful. A snack is a carrot or a handful of raisins as Rosemary says I can do that. I shall up the exercises and watch the portions. Thanks to each and every one of you now I feel that I belong to a group which is wonderful.

I should add that I have gone down 2 sizes in my clothes and everyone I know can see the difference. At the beginning it went very quickly but then evened out to a pound or ½ pound a week. We keep a graph so it is easy to see. I eat whole wheat bread only. All this food talk is making me hungry so will go and grab a carrot now. What a delight !
Maybe its some sort of reaction to giving up the pills?
Could it be that you're making muscle?
"do you really need to lose weight? I would hope at 70, I wouldn't really care less!"

Why! People at 70 and still have pride in their appearance. There isn't a certain age that you give up and don't care!!

I have friends in their 70's that still look very attractive and well turned out and have a young outlook and probably do more physical exercise than a lot of young people - and look better for it.
xsticher and wendilla.......why don't you use 'contact us' at the bottom of the page, and ask the Ed for a permanent 'sticky' either here or in Health & Fitness.......I think quite a few of us would like to see that.
I have not been on a diet per se....but have been trying to loose 7-10lbs I had put on after changing jobs a year and a half ago. I had little success until I got my dog 2 months ago...the half stone is gone. It shows what a difference exercise makes.....and I still indulge-quite a bit I am ashamed to say!
