I was just wondering if you tip at your local bar for drinks and/or food?

If you've had table service, yes. But not if you're just stood at the bar.
Id say no, if your there all time spending money and are friendly with them then its not needed.
What food do they sell at your bar? snacks?
Question Author
No real "fancy" meals. Just hamburgers, french-fries, onion rings etc; so, yes, snacks.
not if it's only for drinks and snacks
Well... it's not really what you are eating, but the service you have received. When we go to our local Tapas bar, invariably we just have a bottle of cava or champers, and they always bring it to the table, and bring some nibbles. We always leave a tip.

I usually tip about 10%. Some people tip more, and some don't tip at all. The staff in bars in Ontario are on minimum wage, so they sort of depend upon tips to augment their income.
Well I stayed in Toronto a few years back, and as I was given to understand, one should always tip about 15%. Even just for drinks at the bar. ??

Was I too generous then?

I've been known to tip even after I leave the bar:)

NM, in the city, yes, they expect around 15%. But in the smaller towns 10% is acceptable.
In a table service restaurant I tend to tip at about 10% on average but also take the view that a tip is a reward for good service. If I really feel I've been looked after I'll leave a bit more but occasionally when the service has been really bad I don't tip at all.
