i was at the doctors yesterday as i have blocked ears (feel like they need to pop) its driving me maaaad! Anyway, she said it wasnt to do with wax, its to do with catarrh build up and prescribed me a nasel spray and told me to steam with hot water and olbas oil. This was only yesterday but im so impatient and wondered how long these things take to work ?!

hi rom, i havent got an answer sorry but im also suffering with blocked ears at the mo. Im suffering with flu (or the end of), do your ears start popping when you yawn, that kind of thing? mine are quite painful and id been wondering what to do.
That was good advice by your GP

How long is a piece of string?

If it hasn't cleared after one week, you need to go aback to your GP for reassessment.
I've had a blocked ear for 6 days now along with a cold. I went to see my GP on tuesday and he told me to give it a couple more days and if the prblem persists to take antibiotics which Ive started doing today. I asked him if I should take eardrops and he said that as its not just the eardrum that is inflamed that the eardrops wont really do much. He put over ibuprofen as the painkiller to take as it is also an anti-inflammatory.
I've had popping ears on & off for two weeks now rom & it's driving me potty! I've had it before & had my ears checked. i was also told it was down to catarrh & that they didn't need syringing! It is indeed very frustrating, but a few sniffs of Otrivine has helped me.
It's one of those things that you have to be patient with.

I get it a lot normally as I have menieres and it gets even worse when I have a cold and they have been particularly bad lately, very swollen at the moment as well but I can't take anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen.

Keep your ears away from cold, wrap a scarf round your head etc...

Hope you feel better soon x
