I am just recovering from a stinking cold, 4 days ago I suffered painful sinuses which was eased by inhaling vicks salve from a bowl of hot water, this did help but since Friday it has moved to my ears and although it is not particularly painful, my ears are blocked.I have been semi deaf since then. Is there anything I can do? it's driving me up the wall.

It's hell coemgen, isn't it? My ears have been bubbling, now half -deaf since the middle of October following an infection. Never again will I be irritable to anyone who is permanently hard of hearing. Wednesday I'm going to be syringed for the third time!! The nurse did suggest chewing gum to open the ear canal - it may help, but you must see your GP if it doesn't improve - don't suffer in silence. No joke intended!!
It could be that your inner ears are congested with fluid, rather than the outer ears being blocked with wax. In this case, try some Sinex spray, 2 puffs to each side of the nose, and then about 20 minutes later, try the Valsalva manoeuvre, which is when you pinch your nose, and then gently try to blow out your cheeks. This action can dislodge the gunk that's behind your eardrums, but you have to persevere for a good few days. It's worth a try!
