I have two ribs (i think) next to each other that have a sharp pain when i breathe deeply or move after being still for over about 5 minutes.

I went rowing a couple of weeks ago and they were hurting like this but were alright after a couple of days but now i've rowed again today i'm sure its more painful.

will i have just pulled a muscle or is it possible i cracked the rib/s? but at the time they felt fine and on neither occasions did i feel or hear anything that felt like cracking, it just hurts afterwards.

Thought so.

So how long does a pulled rib muscle/cracked rib take to heal
Pulled muscle....couple of days.
Not that much you can do for ribs.

Mine pop out of place from time to time which is really painful and cost me a trip to the osteopath to have them popped back into place but all I can do inbetween is painkillers and taking it easy.

Can you reproduce the pain by pressing you fingers over the area of the pain? If so you may have injured the intercostal muscles; these are the muscles between the ribs. It will also make your ribs ache. Regular simple analgesia will help, for example paracetamol or brufen if you do't have any problems with your stomache.
Front, back or side?

Front or back...costo- chondral strain

Side......pulled intercostal muscles.

Treatment......2 weeks no rowing +NSAID's........e.g Ibuprofen.

marie if i press on the spot it doesnt hurt but if i still press and breathe deeply the pain goes closer to my spine.

But apart from that, the pain is where my back starts to curve round to my side but not actualy on my side more on the corner where my back ends and side starts.
Right......Costo vertebral strain.....treatment as I suggested.
Question Author
will it be the rowing that did it then?

the first time i wasn't sure but seeing as it has happened twice the day after i rowed it seems likely.
molly....almost certainly.

i just finished my competant crew plus theres six of us which means i can be learning my supervised coxswain and be lazy-bow the rest of the time. (we need to train(and i be able to do every position) so if i do those two positions, i won't be strainging my back for a couple of weeks.)
Question Author
its getting better.

i told them about my rib and the instructor said that i could be coxswain and lazybow (involves no rowing just a bit of steering, shouting orders with some throwing and tieing pieces of ropes every so often)
