can love someone but not be 'in love' with someone?

I used to think this was a load of rubbish but now I'm not so sure.

I think you might be able to not be 'in love' with someone but to still love them, though more in the way you would love a friend.

Morning angel xx

Whats on your mind today, sweetheart?

:0)
well, i would say yes, you can "love" someone, but not be "in" love with someone.

the first thing that came to mind for me would be the relationship between a parent and child. Now, a parent "loves" their child - but they are not "in" love with their child.

I think as well its possible to "not like" someone, yet still "love" them. For example with me and my sister.

To be honest - I hate her. I cant stand to be near her. I hate the way she turns everything into an arugment, i simply do not like her personality at all. I dont like her end of. But...i still "love" her in the idea that she is my sister, shes part of my family, i would hate and be devestated if anything bad ever happened to her. so i dont like her, but i still love her.

If its the bloke you can leave that you keep mentioning lately I;d say you are in love with him and infactuated to a point where you cant leave him even though he is a b@stard to you. I wouldnt say that you love him as a friend at all
I can happily say "I love my brother"
I can say " I love my Nephew"
neither of the above statements are false
But I can only say "I'm In love with my wife"

perhaps that helps, maybe not?

Hi Yogi, 4get and Danny

A parents love is different to a relationship type of love though. A parent loves you but is not in love with you. Perhaps in a relationship if you're not 'in love' with them then you can't just love them.

In a debating mood haha.

I don't think I love him anymore though 4get. I dislike his bad side and I like/love his good side. But love him wholly as a person - no. Love part of him yes.

Are you going to angel?
Question Author
Yes I am going to. Just a question of when. It will be as soon as I feel able to though. I have no intention of wasting anymore years with him.
Be brave and strong sweetie x In the long run you know you will be happier x
angel

if i remember right, you were going to wait until things between you were really good, and then leave him so he would have a good memory of you!!
That is just weird, sweetheart and makes no sense at all.

if you're not happy with him and he treats you badly as i think he does, fgs leave him and find someone who will love you and care for you for what you are, and does'nt take you for granted.

You're about 21, i think.......you have a lot of life in you, sweetheart..............do what's best for YOU not others.

Love

You see angel, I very rarely if ever use the word "love" as it means differnt things to different people.

Many times I have asked for a definition of the word "love" on AB, but I have had no replies.

If you are asking if you can" love" more than one person, from the sexual point of view, then the answer in my opinion is ...YES.

What you do about it is quite another thing.
Question Author
Yogi, I'm not not cheered up. I'm fine as I can be right now.

When I said I was going to wait til things were better between us, I didn't mean better as in that he would be good enough to stay with cus he's not going to change, I just mean better as in having a good day, he is jekyll and hyde, so I mean I wanted to wait until he was being nice temporarily so could leave on a good note.

I so wish I had andy-hughes ability of expressing myself well but I don't. But what I was saying wasn't weird at all really.

I won't be in this situation for longer than I can help. So al lwill turn out hunky dory in the end! xxx
Question Author
nah I wasn't asking if you could love more than one person from a sexual point of view. Though, I agree that is definitely possible.

I just meant if you're not in love with your partner can you still love them.

You can still care about them angel x
There is a world of difference between loving someone and being 'in love' with someone.

salla....what?
