Hi everyone, as some may know, my mother passed away last Sunday. The funeral is on Friday and I'm organising the order of service, tribute leaflets. I would really like to add a nice poem or verse of a scripture, but can't recall any.

Does anyone know of any nice poems or scriptures, which would sum up my love for her? Perhaps something poignant that you've used yourself for a departed loved one.

Thanks

Very sad time for you. This is a 'classic' for a loved family member that may do.

2They say memories are golden well maybe that is true. I never wanted memories, I only wanted you.

A million times I needed you, a million times I cried. If love alone could have saved you you never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly, In death I love you still. In my heart you hold a place no one could ever fill.

If tears could build a stairway and heartache make a lane, I'd walk the path to heaven and bring you back again.

Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again."
This may not be exactly what u are looking for...but i put it on my mum's memoriam card as it just felt so right.
Thinking of you at this sad time Velvetee.

Do not stand at my grave and weep - by Mary Elizabeth Frye

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
Sorry about your recent loss. Don't know if you are religious but we used this poem at my mothers funeral.

We give our loved ones back to God
and just as He first gave them to us
and did not lose them in giving,
so we have not lost them
in returning them to Him
for life is eternal,
love is immortal
death is only a horizon
and a horizon is nothing
but the limit of our earthly sight.
Helen Steiner Rice

Here's another one we considered:
I am standing upon that foreshore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails in the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, "There! She's gone!" "Gone where?" "Gone from my sight, that's all." She is just as large in mast and spar and hull as ever she was when she left my side; just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of her destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at that moment when someone at my side says, "There! She'sgone!" there are other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

Scriptures we used:
Psalm 27, vv 1-4
Romans 8, vv35-39
Sorry haven't got access to hand to write them out at the moment.

Hope all goes well xx

Thanks for your input. I've found one which is very similar to HC4361's, I though it had alot of meaning and it also made me cry, so it will be the one I'll go with.

Thanks again for taking the time.

Velvetee.. I'm so sorry for your loss.
We put this verse on the back of the order of service for my dearest sister...

You can shed tears that she is gone
or you can smile because she has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that shell come back
or you can open your eyes and see all that shes left.

Your heart can be empty because you cant see her
or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what shed want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

My sister would have indeed wanted us to smile and go on as I'm sure your dear Mum would.
Hope all goes as well as possible on Friday - love and thoughts are with you xxx
This is one of the nicest poems I have read recently ( ruthann5 18/02/09) in Body & Soul.Ron.

Velvetee I don't know you personally but would like to add my condolences to you on the loss of your dear Mother.
I was going to post the same poem that mamyalynne left for you about the rose. It was on one of the cards that I received when I lost my beloved husband. I've kept it framed because it is such a lovely poem.
God Bless you.
Velvetee
