With the decline in the Starling population, the problem is not as great as it was years ago. When I was a lad I can recall a flock of Starlings stripping an orchard in the South East before we could get the guns out. In the end, we used to use a tape recording of a wounded Starling played over loud speakers. It kept the Starlings off the cherries, but annoyed the neighbours.
I have found that using old CD's and DVD's tied to the branches of fruit trees seems to keep most birds at bay. I also use them on my allotment to keep the birds off my seeds...Hope it works for you...Good luck
I have only seen one starling in my garden this year, when a few years ago they were a pest.
We get quite a few in ours, but they never attack my one cherry tree. Maybe it's because there's plenty of other food around, I don't know.
The only starlings I`ve had in my garden were the ones that flew into my patio doors last year :o(
