Hi guys - my first day in a wek out of bed having been laid low with flu. Still aching and so tired, but I need to get out. Have you any tips for getting over flu and encouraging recovery?

Ah, man flu......known to everyone else as a common cold!
(Only joking!)

Keep up your fluid intake and if you have any appetite try to eat healthily. Keep warm.
Don't overdo it just because you feel a bit better, but as you are now out of bed try a little gentle exercise each day.

I hope you are fighting fit soon.
chicken soup, i swear by it!

thanks folks. It's strictly fruit for now - can't stomach anything else. I wish it was man flu! I honestly haven't had a dose like this in many many years. Time for a shower and a short walk - the weather's damn cold but the sunshine is glorious
Well wrap up warm because there is a bitter wind out there! (if you live anywhere near Portmouth!) Hope that you feel much better soon.
hi mate its no good stayin in bed the most important recovery tip i can give is keep active doin most of your day to day routine, drink plenty of water and get someone to give u a message from top to bottom which is another relief from ach,s and tiredness.
hot and spicy food! that''ll raise your body temperature and burn that virus out of you! also the sweating will be benificial to sweat it out, also get your hands on vit c and zinc,to help your immune system get better armed to fight what ails ya,and b vitamins for energy to help ya feel better!
Have had it - diabolical - don't go out though, as it's soooooooooo cold and won't help. Stay in the warm, drink lots of non-alcoholic drinks. try not to stay in bed or inactive for too long, as you'll ache more! Sleep when you want to and eat when you feel like it. Take paracetamol if you're not allergic and hope by New Year you'll be fit again. Just have to give in to how you feel, really; don't push it!!
It can take weeks to get over a good dose of flu. Take all the above advice or you'll end up being worse than before - my bloke ended up with pneumonia last year and didn't realise until the doctor told him he was actually in the recovery phase.

If you really do have to go out, wrap up warm and keep the trip short. Believe me, you'll be shattered when you get back. Also, sleep when you need to and don't feel guilty about it.
