Hhi there

Can anyone help me, I think something may be wrong with me.

I get up at least twice every night to go to toilet and cant go back to sleep unless I have a biscuit or something sweet, as I find that my sugar levels have dropped..is this some kind of diabetes?

I dont have any other symptoms apart from the above.

Any ideas?

I doubt it, but theres no harm in checking. As always its best to go to the doctor/GP. They normally just require you to urinate in a bottle or onto a stick.

You could do it yourself. Do you know anyone with diabetes who has the machine? You can check your levels using that. Do it 2-3 hours after a meal.
IF, and it's a very big IF, you were to have undiagnosed diabetes, you would be suffering from high blood sugar, not low. you say you find that your sugar levels have dropped during the night - how do you know this? it's more likely that you've got into the habit of having something to eat when you wake up during the night. the weeing is really neither here nor there, lots of people get up 2 or more times to pee during the night, and it too can become a habit.
as has been said, it's very easy for the practice nurse at your surgery to do a dip stick test on your urine to give some indication as you whether or not it needs more investigation.
I agree with Supa...as diabetes develops, your blood sugar rises, not falls. Do as Supa says and get your urine or blood sugar levels tested.
Ethandron...sorry to repeat, we must have been typing at the same time.
As a diabetic myself the others are quite right, get yourself of to the doctor's for a quick urine test.

The couple of symptoms you described MAY be diabetes, although there are normally more symptoms apparent than what you describe . It may be something else or nothing at all to worry about. You need to get it checked. I also suggest you read the information at the head of this section about seeking medical help without relying on receiving answers first.
D143237G........I think that you will find ALL questioners read the above warning, but most just want second hand reassurances, personal experiences and anecdotal evidence. i.e my grandad had etc etc...my wife saw her GP who ..etc etc. Makes one wonder why anyone replies....but they do. Also remember that experienced Dr. may also provide answers, but the bottom line is, as the advice suggests, see your GP
I get up in the night and crave something sweet and I know why.....cos I try and watch my weight and dont eat a lot during the day, so am in need of a quick energy boost
I'm the same, get low blood sugar and often crave sweet things in the evening.

Often if I can't sleep I just have something sweet.
Two questions.
How old are you and does it run in your family?
I don't think it is diabetes as you would be drinking a lot of fluid as well and twice a night isn't that often.
Tiredness also accompanies the symptoms as well.

I would just like to say that i have the exact same problem with my blood sugar level is low. It does mean that there is not enough sugar in ur body. i too need something sweet all day and go to loo more during the night that any member of my family. low blood sugar can be a cause of diabetes and if it runs to low then you have a chance of passing out. the best thing is to go to ur doctor and ask for a blood test to be done because then you will know what is wrong and they can help more then if you did it on your own.

Thanks for all your responses.

To Tigerlily 11. I am 44 years old and this does not run in my family.

I will def make a doctors appointment to get to the bottom of this as this is happening to me everynight!

Thanks again !
might be diabetes but could even be simple like are you drinking alot before bed? Or a weak bladder?
hypoglycemia - low blood sugar - definately does not cause people to need to urinate more.
hyperglycemia - high blood sugar - does.
