Do you have a computer tip?

For example, it was only recently I discovered 'auto correct' and now, instead of typing my email address, I just type the letter 'c' and hit the space bar, and the rest is typed in automatically.

(I did, of course, set it up first - just in case any of you are now trying it and finding it doesn't work).

why would i need your email addy?? lol

its good isnt it, i used to use it instead of typing long customer names and addresses out
I don't use that facility on my laptop - if it were stolen I don't want strangers accessing my accounts simply by going through the alphabet.

I do use it on the desktop though.

I use alt-tab a lot

Ethel, what is Alt Tab?
If you have a lot of programs open at the same time, alt-tab switches between them quickly

Too complicated for me Ethel. I just stick to very basic computing. Would love to know more about it though.

Red, that sounds like a good idea. Does it type it out all in one line, or does it actually put returns in?
the keyboard shortcuts for copy and paste

Ctrl +x = cut
ctrl + c = copy
Ctrl + v = paste

Very simple but I'm amazed the amount of people that don't know them!
its one line. But Id just press return and use a different auto correct for each line of address.
In 'Word' - if you type something like

tHANKYOU FOR YOUR LETTER'

Select the incorrect script, hold the shift key (Upward pointing arrow) and hit F3. It will all change to lower case and you then just have to alter the first letter to upper case.

Super tips - keep 'em coming folks!
Screenshots can be very useful.

In XP, click PrSc (top row of keys towards the right)

Now open your paint application such as Paint

Click Ctrl and v and voila! there it is. Save as usual

Hey Eth, what would we use a screenshot for?
We all need to access the computer properties from time to time.

A quick way in XP:

The windows key (down by the space bar) and the Pause/Break key (top right)
If you have a problem with your pc and want to show somebody what the problem is, you can take a screenshot and either email it or post a link to it in a forum.

Or if you see something worth keeping in a forum (I wonder what?) you could take a screenshot and save it for posperity
