Is a cold just a virus u catch, or can you get it from being cold, ie being in wet clothes on a cold day etc.

I am plannig to do some cold baths with ice in to help develop my muscles after working out, but due to me needing to be in peak condition fitness at the mo would these cold baths hurt me physically make me ill??

I read in paper other week that is total rubbish and just a myth about catching a cold in the rain. It is a virus

Colds are caused by viruses, but if your resistance is down through extreme cold combined with tiredness, etc. then you are more likely to catch one. Cold baths will not make you ill at all. In fact they are meant to aid the circulation. Don't know about the ice though. The best of luck to you! You'll need it if you take ice cold baths.

Nothing wrong with cold baths - provided you are able to get warm quickly afterwards. Vigorous rub down with towels and get quickly dressed afterwards.
Getting in them in the first place is the problem! I'll pass on cold baths.

Apparently it's good for you to end a shower with cold water. Good for the heart and circulation and energising.

Eskimos didn't use to get bothered with colds until they started trading with the Canadians in the springtime. As already said, if your body's under par it's more prone to pick up a virus.
Used to have cold showers at school. Had a few in the Army (not out of choice) and haven't had one in 5 years or so.

And now am probably in the best shape of my life merely due to good sleep, no tobacco, plenty of fruit, veg and FULL FAT milk, and a decent cardio workout at least twice a week.
It's a virus, you can't catch a cold for being wet or sitting in a draughty room. However, these could lower the immune system to stop the virus.
apparently there are 1000's of variants of cold viruses. once you catch one type, you're immune to it forever but there are plenty more out there. I think that's why they just can't find a cure.
oh, and wash your hands.. plenty of viruses are spread by shaking hands, sharing phones, pens, door-handles, keyboards, etc.
I hate people who come to work with awful colds and think they are being so wonderful in turning in sick. People should stay at home and not spread it around.
