The menopause

I have been on H.R.T for about 5 years now and over the past 6 months have had a fair bit of spotting ranging from bright red blood to brown discharge. My doctor has suggested I come of H.R.T for a few months to see if ,
A:- my symptoms of the menopause have gone and
B:- whether the spotting stops.
Has anyone come of H.R.T. after this amount of time to find they no longer have menopausal symptoms.
