No surprise there before anyone starts !!

My husband has just came back from the pub and this guy we both know -in his fifties -has lung cancer.
He is still smoking plus taking chemo.

He was told if he gave up the fags he could at least have a couple of extra years -he has a 17yr old son.

He has decided -whats the point giving up the fags for a couple of years -what a selfish swine -the couple of years could be spent taking his missus and son on holiday -sitting and enjoying each others company and also crucially telling each other how much they mean to each other !!

I am so angry cos my husband has just said he would be the same.

Wish my kids had had the opportunity -I am incesnded that he is taking chemo and not helping himself -selfish -o grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!

Life is precious -only to some tho !!!

He should not have chemo if he is not prepared to help himself -even laughing about it in the pub -o and I hate my husband for thinking this is bleeding funny -arse hole !!

oops sorry raz -I did think you thought I wasnt sincere but I now know yoo did think I was -sorry -xxxxxxxx
I hold my hand up to smoking.....have seen the warnings etc but cant give them up as they keep me sane. I dont want to live to 90 (have to make room for u youngsters) in dementia! I may be run over by bus 2moro but have enjoyed my smokes till then. We take responsibility for own lives; we drink when we want, eat junk food, too many chocs, buy water when its free in the tap, eat meals prepared in supermarkets 'cause were too lazy (or dont know) how to cook. Pollute the environment for all with cars and plane hols.

Everyway our lives are lived we are taxed and pay NI. Since we pay we are entitled to health service care!

Those who dont pay Tax & NI should NOT be entitled to health care!

Teranbam -you speak sense - in a way -that is the point i was trying to make -you are being resonsable for your actions -your prergotive -this git is taking off the NHS and still bleeding smoking and is being blase about it-thinks its a laugh -that irks me -sorry but it does.
I cannot begin to imagine how I would react if I was told I was dying from cancer.

Some people put a brave face on - especially in the pub - because they are frightened of what they will do if the let go.

I bet he's not behaving like that at 3am, alone with his thoughts.
I smoke too and yet I sat with my sister and held my dad's hand till he passed away 4 years ago with cancer. It was the worst thing ever, we both promised him we would give up and havent yet.
I have that planned tho in the next few months as Im making a brand new start, I will give it my best shot.

I will also be thinking about you on Tuesday Dris.
yes, who knows how they'd react if given a death sentence. By all means consider how you would, but don't get worked up about how others do it. As for your own man, it may never happen, and if it does you might well find he's changed his mind; but you could certainly have a forceful chat with him now to put your own point of view and your kids'.
Lung cancer is nearly always terminal. The guy is probably scared out of his wits and he is going to have a horrible death! It's probably his way of dealing with it. Give him a break!

jno -think I feel strongly because life is precious and some dont appear to take it that way.
beane -its just that I feel if youre given a chance of prolonging your death sentence it should be seized upon -but i dont know how he is thinking -he may not want that looming over his head for longer than necessary -I would never say this to him -he is a good friend.
TM -well done you !!!!
