Can anyone help, I seem to be allergic to bites and they become enormous very fiery and very sore sometimes becoming infected also. I seem to have tried everything, taking antihistamines, spraying myself with stuff containing deet, the doctor has given me prednisolone which helps to bring them under control eventually. I can manage them mostly but this week I had seven (7) on my right breast which you can imagine were v painful. (No any men cannot look at them). Please help I am scarred for life!

My sis and I are both sufferers from bites and they blow up just like you said, and have tried everything. The only thing I find is to try and avoid getting bitten in the first place, so I tend to make sure I try and keep covered up whenever the little bs are about. They always seem to ignore the chemicals. There are some anti itching creams and sprays which often work, but don't do what my wife did to her brother recently. He complained about a bite on his forehead and asked if we had anything to prevent itching, so she gave him some Anusol, which he happily rubbed on, without realising what it was. Now I'm under pain of death not to tell him! Jokes about bites on the butt or about having piles of them are also off-limits!
Avon have a spray called Skin So Soft which some people find repels midges if that's any help. You can buy it from them online. It is the 'repelnishing dry oil body spray' It's not expensive and you have nothing to lose- its smells OK too.
I often come up badly with bites - I know you said antihistamines don't help, but I also cover bites with plasters to prevent me scratching, if that is a problem for you.

Thanks all. I've tried Avon dry oil spray before, and I try to to scratch, but you always do before you realise its a bite, then you leave it alone. Its funny though because we go abroad a lot and they never bother me when we're away, except some years ago when I was quite ill with them in Ibiza, its only when I go in my garden at home.
my daughter has similar problems and we have come up with what seems like a drastic measure but if careful does work.
Hydrogen peroxide which you can get at a chemists in different strengths (we use the strongest and add our own water to dilute it) half a capful in an eggcup add the same amount of water - then use a cotton bud to dab just a tiny bit on the actual bite and leave well alone. It will fizz (literally) and sting a little but this actually relieves the itch!
It stops the itch, prevents infection and keeps skin damage to minimum - no scars. Works on any kind of weepy spots too. Just be very careful with the stuff.
Vitamin B complex, or love it or hate it eat marmite! .Apparently both of these emit a smell through your skin which we can't smell but they hate it ! Marmite has a high Vit B content too, and it's supposed to repel them.
