I just found out I stopped a suicidal person from killing himself last summer.
I didn't know he was suicidal at the time, he just told me a few days ago.

but how? Sorry but to me if someone is going to do it they are that low that no-one can stop them.
Oh well done you, you mustve been a good friend/shoulder to cry on at the time and made them feel it was worth going on. You should feel proud !

I didnt do anything though, I just sent him a postcard
It just goes to show, doesn't it.

A little bit of kindness or thoughtfulness goes a long way.
That is lovely and you probably cheered him up, but I have had many friends commit suicide and nothing would have stopped them.
Well good on you, but I would remain sceptical Im afraid. Dont let a sense of guilt or benevolence keep you awake at night, worrying whether he might try again and only you can save him nobody needs that burden.

How can you be sure this is not some unstable attention/sympathy seeking? I dont mean to cloud any aspect of your post, but my senses would tell me to be very wary.

Like 4get I have had a friend and 2 uncles commit suicide and no end of support and love could have stopped them.
I agree I'm afraid. Recieving a postcard would make no difference to a genuinely suicidal person.

I'm glad you cheered them up though.

I cant tell whats going on inside his head, sometimes he acts all tough and then sometimes he seems really vulnerable
Yes and you being there will help him, and you seem such a lovely person, but if he has told you that your postcard stopped him taking his own life then I would have to say you dont have any worry about him doing it. From my experience people that kill themselves very rarely tell a person they are going to.

in a pickle i agree with u as i have also been there n tried it myself. didnt even know i was found or alive till next day in hospital. ive also been in the deciding stage to weighing it all up. not a nice place to be and still think about it now when i get so down. not quite as bad now thou. ska i think he feels somrthing 2wards u. maybe u make him think more possitive and feel more stronger.
