hard skin on foot

My husband has a hard lump of skin on his foot at the bottom of his heal which is very painful to walk on, any suggestions, tried heal repair cream and pumice stone to no avail, thanks in advance

Well actually i did try what ostensibly appeared to be one of the madder AB answers to this question... this is not a wind up. It was suggasted to place a banana skin or rub one on the affected area. As i have zero patience I have to admit ( I am gonna get some stick now! ) that when I sat down to watch a couple of hours of a documentary I did so with a banaa skin on the bit of hard skin , held in place with a bit of cling film and a sock. Surprisingly it worked. lol. Sloughed the skin of the next day ... result.
Sounds like a callous. He needs to go to Chiropodist and basically have it taken out.
