According to the Guinness Book of Records, the heaviest baby born in the UK was Guy Warwick Carr who weighed in at 15lb 8oz when he was born at Kirby-in-Furness, Cumbria, on March 9, 1992.
I just noticed that you didn't specify the UK - the heaviest baby ever recorded was born in South Africa on May 24, 1982, to Mrs Christina Samane - a 22lb 8oz son.
Another Furness connection - we live in Barrow-in-Furness, about 20 mins from the UK heaviest baby, and my wife has today given birth to a boy, Kristian Luke at 12 pounds and 8 ounces !!!
My mum weighed over 15 pds and was short so she couldn't wear newborn clothes she came home from the hospital with 9mths old baby clothes on. Poor granny, out of 7 kids my mum was the only one born at a hospital. All the others weighed over 9 1/2 pds. And she was only 4'11" tall.
My Grandad weighed 16lb 10 1/2 oz and he was the second biggest baby born in Ireland. He has a certificate to prove it. I don't think it's been beaten yet. My grandad is 84 now so can you imagine giving birth to that in 1922 Ireland?
