I'm getting married in September and am slightly worried what my best man might say.

Do you think I should tell him about some tales in particular that i do not think should be told in front of my and my then wife's family?

I think he's quite looking forward to his role on the day and I don't want him to think that i'm telling him to do.

Leave it to him. I'm sure he will know what he can and cant say infront of your future in-laws.
I would say it's absolutely fine to let him know that some stories mught be innapropriate. I've never known a groom yet who didn't try have a sly word about whether some tales might not go down well with the audience.
Yeah, just tell him not to cause any troubles, I'm sure he'll understand and you can trust him if he's your best man
Leighton, just make sure he knows what your future wife doesn't know if you know what I mean. You HAVE to expect a bit of ribbing, he wouldnt be doing his job otherwise. However, starting off your married life telling tales she has no knowledge of might be a tad awkward. A quiet word over a beer or five might be in order. As long as you're not pushy about it and write the speech for him i'm sure he'll understand.

Hope all goes well for you in the meantime. It's a stressful time for all, make sure your future wife is pampered!!
Yes , I think a quiet word in his ear would be better all round to save red faces if there are stories you do not wish everyone to hear. At my husband's brother's wedding , his best man told the whole wedding party in his speech that he'd 'had' the bride and "Let's face it , who hadn't " because she was a party girl and when they all got to a certain location , "it was a case of , hey hey , it's party time with Miss x" There was a lot of awkward shuffling and coughing going on. The worst of it was though , he continued , becoming worse with even hairier stories , in the belief that it was a cracking speech. Well it certainly was memorable ........ for all the wrong reasons ! Serves my brother-in-law right for not picking my hubby as best man.
it is your wedding and it's up to you what happens in it. he is there to perform a job - for you, so i see no harm in telling him what you want from him

tell him whats what

you could also look on the net for best man speeches, find a few you like and tell him they are the sort of thing you are after.
he may appreciate having the onus taken off him
The things we found out about a cousin during the best mans speech were shocking. Definately have a quiet word. An irate mother of the Groom is not a pretty sight during the reception. Fight ...fight...fight!!!!!
