I can honestly say that I tried doing it for the money once and it really isn't the answer, or at least not the longterm answer!
Wish i knew the answer coz i'm in the same situation myself!! lol.
I've always said that if I didn't enjoy doing a job then I would leave. Money isn't everything and life is too short!!
Do you guys work where I work?
Cos it sounds like my workplace
Would a reduced wage make you unhappy? Would the change in job give you a greater sense of self esteem and satisfaction, but still allow you plenty of free time and disposable income to do the things you want to do or have become accustomed to?

Of course there is more to life than money and job satisfaction, but the old adage that the grass is always greener plays true here.

You really need to weigh up all the benefits and shortcomings, but if you are really really unhappy in a job then you should try to change it either by moving, or finding new challenges in your current place to lift your spirits.
18 months ago I was in the same position as you. I was hugely overpaid for the job I did but really hated it. If I had decided to move to another job, I would have been paid much less. I decided that if I was going to take a cut in wage I would do it properly. I went to university and am now half way through my degree. In 18 months time the world is my oyster!

Personally, I think that if you are trully unhappy where you are, you should look elsewhere. Money isn't everything. I am alot poorer at the moment but am a very happy person!
I agree with what said. Life is too short to be stuck in a job you hate.x
I resigned yesterday and my new job is 10k less a year, but I think it will be better. it all depends on whether you have debts / a house etc. I am trying to save for a deposit and pay debts so it was quite a hard decision. good luck.
There was a gap between the "what" and the "said".lol.x
I would rather earn less money but be happy then have a bigger pay packet and be bloomin miserable all day!! Life is far too short!!
I agree ~ be happy!

Of course you have to make sure your wage cut isn't too major, otherwise you may find you become unhappy from being skint or in debt..but you have to find a happy medium :o)
3 years ago I had my own business with a very good income and loved my work but never had anytime to myself.

I am now a carer in a residential home working 36 hours a week on really low wages, but I can honestly say, it is the best most rewarding work I have ever done and wished I done it years ago!!!

The money is not important, providing you can survive on less of course!!
I dont like my job very much either sam but im a real coward when it comes to change (I get sooo nervous that the thought of starting a new job fills me with dread)

Is there anything good about your job apart from the pay? maybe weigh up the pros and cons and decide what to do from there?

I did this and found that although I dont like the work Im doing and dont really like the bosses very much, the place I work is 5 minutes walk from home, I only work 2-6 weekdays,I usually have a good laugh while Im there, we get 25 days hols a year plus stats and Im on a pretty good wage. I decided better the devil you know and stopped looking for another job.
