I'm off out on my date in London tonight. I'm pretty much at ease with the whole thing (and a little bit excited!), but I just need your advice on one little detail.

If a guy asks a woman out, can she expect that he intends to foot the bill? i.e. we'll be eating at some point, and I don't mind going 'Dutch' at all, but don't quite know the polite way is of addressing this. Any ideas?

Sasha, ask wonderwoman or unruliejulie what they look like, they have seen them both.

Just as well you pointed that out Sasha, I was thinking you were wanting an answer to the question "How did Butchers kill chickens in the days when there was still sawdust on the floor ?" and I wasn't going to answer because it involves inverted funnels and is not pleasant.

legend that's no use if you are wanting to collect the blood in buckets for other purposes.

But this thread is not about slaughtering chickens, it's about Champagne's date, and I imagine she could be getting a bit cross by now.

sasha, they are Rays lads so there is no question about what sort of lads they are and as for looks, need i say more, they are the sons of the main man raysparx, gorgeous!
If Sasha has one can I have the other one Ray? xxx
generally the person who issues the invitation will pay - nothing to do with age or gender, just a normal social principle. In fact someone did invite me to a nice restaurant a few weeks back and at the end said 'Shall we split the bill?' I didn't mind (it wasn't a romantic encounter), but it was unusual behaviour; you'd normally expect him to mention this at the time of issuing the invitation if that's what he had in mind. By all means offer to buy him a drink.

If it leads on to other meals together, the terms can be renegotiated as you get to know each other better.
Jenna, Please do, they would love to find a decent lady to be with, and you are perfection, xx
Awwwwww (blushing furiously now!), if they came from you I'm sure they're both lovely lovely men :)

Maybe you should introduce us ;) xxx
Well Champers, how did it go ? hope you had a great time.and he paid for it all and treated you with the respect a lady deserves.
I'm still waiting, come on it can't have been that bad !!!

Hi Ray. Sorry for the delay but I've only just spotted this!!

The date went really well. Had a lovely evening and he was the perfect gent and paid for everything. I did buy a couple of drinks though. Got on well enough, but unfortunately there is no attraction for me there. He's a fairly good looking guy, good manners, easy to talk to etc., but there just wasn't any chemistry, y'know? I did have my doubts before going out with him just whether or not I was attracted to him in that way, but gave him the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be. I let him down gently and diplomatically though. :o)
Hi Champagne, Glad to hear he was a nice bloke and you had a good time, but as you say if that "feeling" isn't there, nowt you can do about it, he is out there somewhere, and he will be one lucky guy when he does come along, and lets hope he has a belly button, on the other hand. !!! xx

a belly buttton?
im confused now.
doesnt everyone have a belly button?
Question Author
Hahaha! I'd be less worried about the lack of belly button than if he had, say, a third nipple. That would freak me out a bit! :o\

Does that make me shallow?

Seriously though, Ray, I'm in no rush to meet a guy. I'm still living under my ex-boyfriend's roof so it's hardly the best timing anyway! I'm really comfortable being single anyway. I know it doesn't make me a reject. ;o)
legend, we were having a debate the other week about, god making adam, and then making eve from one of adams ribs, and I said, if that is so, why do all paintings of adam and eve, show them with belly buttons, I am confused by it, don't take much.

Champagne,There is no need for panic anyway, enjoy the freedom to do as you want, when you want. xx
