i suppose when someone is sore sometimes it can get bigger can't they? like if you trap your finger/thumb in the door then it can get inflammed hence making it stand out...i suppose there is a much deeper meaning relating to the saying to do with history a long time ago!

Yes......They really do stick it out. His thumb is really bad today. So bad he can't go school. His been sticking it out all day so far. Bless him
