We live in a world where something has to have come from some kind of source.

So if this is the case where does matter come from. What is before matter and what put it there.

Does this not indicate that there is some kind of higher being that has just always been there to have arrange the matter and make the world we live in today possible?

The most logical answer I can come up with is that being in this body form we cannon comprihend the fact that matter has always been there and it has come from nothing.

Maybe we have to be in a different form to understand this concept? I don't know but it seems to be the most logical answer to me.

well said.
When I die, I will disappear from existence, I have no problem with that, it makes a lot more sense than me turning into some sort of spirit or ghost or whatever.

I have no problem with people believing in God or Gods I have never insulted them or condemned them, I just don't understand why?

But that's my problem, I like to live and let live, do we need to put people down just because we have different beleifs, is it really necessary?

Well RATTER, I know we will have to agree to differ on this one, but for me it doesn't feel right, having been brought into existence, to be completely ended. I can understand biology and how my heart beats but not why I FEEL things outside and can get transported by Rachmaninov and exalted by Jane Eyre.

Try it, shut your eyes and imagine not existing, gone completely. It's no good being remembered on a gravestone and in the hearts of those you have left behind you, because there is nothing at all of you left to appreciate those things.
I agree Whiffey, the emotional feelings we get are in someways very physical, and in other ways unexplainable, and the thought of being nowhere after death is indeed a strange thought, I suppose impossible to truly imagine as we have no comparisons, But maybe, just maybe that is the way it is, not a comforting thought I know, but to my way of thinking more likely.

Is it possible that you believe in god because it is easier than being uncertain, and with a belief in God, life after death is easier to deal with than just death.
Please don't think I'm preaching or putting you down, i'm trying to understand the thought process of a believer, not trying to change your mind.

My mind is betwixt and between, but it's my wretched soul (I suppose) that won't lay down and give in.

What I might do is to post in Religion and Spirituality some bullet points regarding the resurrection. It's not right to hijack izzymem's thread (sorry izzymem).

Hi izzymem,

Sorry I could not reply last night, computer played up, when I say I believe in Nature, I mean, the Sun,The Moon, The seasons, New life,Death the whole Cycle of things, but a Higher being ? my mind cannot grasp that at all,if somebody could explain in simple terms ,great.
Personaly Izzy I'd shove this question in Science as well (unless you already have in which case apologies but I haven't browsed in there yet). The guys and gals in there have some fasinating stuff to say on it. I asked a similar question once and I'm still trawling my way through the links they sent me!
Well science is based on the proposing of hypotheses and the proof or otherwise of it. If there is no proof then another hypothesis is put forward. To date no one has proved there IS a God, but no-one has disproved it either. We just, maybe, don't have the right questions yet. Ask youself why so many scientists are also believers? The answers are out there somewhere. Maybe we have to wait till after .this life to find them
