YOUR is the possessive pronoun. What do YOU possess?

If your TV's on say hello!
If your RADIO's on say hello!
If your PHONE's on say hello!

are all perfectly meaningful. What word is missing from your post?

LOL! (rolls eyes) Ok Gen, The person who goes by the name of oldwoman on AB.... is that better suited for you?
You are still missing the point. I think you meant to ask

If YOU ARE on say hello! I'd like a word!

or

If YOU'RE on say hello! I'd like a word!

Could it be " If you are online say hello ? If that is the case then "HELLO"

Hello there oldwoman! At least you understood what I meant... I read in one of the posts that you have been in the catering career all your life... I was just wundering if you would share your wisdom of it, as I am 15 and I have had a part-time job in it for 10 months. You said it is a tough career for girls. Did you you go to catering college? if so which one? And Did you do restaurant catering, or outside catering, etc?

Kind regards
Silversky
I didnt go to college till I was 39. Old I know but if you didnt have your bit of paper no one wanted to employ you in a decent job. I live in the North East and went to Durham for mine. I wish I`d started earlier but had a mother in a wheel chair to look after, then married and two children. I have done outside catering but found this really hard for small returns. The job I liked the best was running my own canteen on a cement works, but then I work better on my own. If you are wondering where to go in your career get all the Qualifications you can,try different placements when you do your certificates. It must be great just starting out. Wish I was in your position.

I know! I just absolutely love my job to pieces... I wouldn't be myself without it... I'm the only girl and love it being that way, sadly our head chef was sacked recently, so we had our sous chef take over for a while... Me and him are good friends, and he really gave me a chance to shine, he let me design the food presentation my way, and on sundays (when we have a carvery) he let me do what desserts and starters I wanted, which was awesome!
It always feels strange when my friends complain about their jobs and I love mine. I cannot wait to leave school and enrole in Food College, I will most likely be going to the Birmingham College of Food. I've always had a major passion for food, and so cannot wait to continue with my career!
I know what you mean. If youv`e got someone like this to help I`m sure you`ll go far. I did restaurants, the only down side is the customers. Long hours, hot work but you love it. I was still trying to get employment untill a few weeks ago. The token oldie at the interview. My friends couldn`t understand why I still wanted to work, but as you say it`s great.
Hi silversky,

Just to wish you all the best in your career,go for it , great to see people your age who know where they are heading, Ray

Awww, thanks for your comment ray... Very kind as always! And I've always had my heart set on catering, ever since I was little... and my best friend always said I'd be a chef one day.

I've only really found two problems with working where I work, is like you said, oldwoman, the long hours. And the fact I don't get along with the Maitre d' because I made a few mistakes in the past (not purposely) which made more work for him, and he wasn't at all happy and now he never speaks to me even though I try really hard to be friendly... theres just no pleasing some people
Silversky, we all make mistakes, the only thing we can do about that is to learn from them, you will be fine you have a passion for what you want to do, if you can do a job you love, you are very lucky, not many people achieve that, the Maitre d', well, most of them are snobs anyway, you keep learning and listening, you WILL get there.

Thanks ray.... it's always nice to get outside opinions. And you're right, it's silly that he holds it against me, and he should see that I always try my hardest with everything I do... especially since I'm one of these people who worry that if they don't impress people, they think they're going to fail.
It's also difficult for me because my dad has only just come round to the idea that this is what I REALLY WANT TO DO. Whereas my mum if still completely against it, she absolutely hates the idea! She sees at as me kind of lowering myself when i should be doing something impressive like a forensic scientist of Surgeon. Something she never got the chance to do.
But she's one of these self-made business types of women, so I don't really expect her to understand. But it hurts alot to think that shes not happy for me.
The only way I've tried to make her happy is by going to Sixth for college first to get some A-levels before moving onto Chef College
Thas parents for you. My oldest daughter is a prison officer in a mens prison, and I worry about her. You seem a very well rounded young lady to me. Tell your mother she should be very proud of you. I think you would be a pleasure to have as a daughter. Best of luck to you. Happy cooking.
Silversky, you cannot live your mums or dads dreams, you have your own, one day, they will be so proud of you, they will be boasting to all the people they know, about what a fantastic cook you are, wait till you are on the telly and see what they say,, but it is what you want that counts, so as I said "Live your dream " good luck, Ray
