I know this should be in another section, but you lot respond quicker, Have any of you had problems understanding what they are saying ? I phoned my Bank this morning to sort out a problem, I honestly could not understand a word she said apart from "Hello HSBC" for 10 minutes I tried to explain, but did it sink in, I asked to speak to the supervisor, what does she say "NO" in the end I just slammed the phone down, it really is a joke, what is your experience of them, good or Bad, Thanks in advance, Ray

I should have said, this one was not based in UK,it was in India.
what you say, say it again. Dust!
HSBC are digusting for customer service!

I always get people from bloody calcutta calling me to remind me i'm overdrawn 2 houirs before my wages get paid in...

I complained a few times, i only do online or in branch banking now...

there are some good people at HSBC, if your calling for the right reasons...

try geting through on a sales line i.e applying to lend money..

.they seem to have the english speakers on those lines...

obviously to drum up trade, whilst the people with nagging problems get dealt with half way down the Ganges!...

everyones gotta make a living, but if you applied for a job in england with such poor communication skills you wouldn't even make a shortlist!
We've got mortgages with Northern Rock in Newcastle - cant understand a word theyre saying either!!

We also get a lot of sales calls from India and the last one I just had to say 'sorry, but I can barely understand you'. I hung up too in the end.
i avoid ringing my bank Ray, and just do as much as possible by internet, as i've given up now, in fact i am thinking of changing my bank for this reason (only i'm too lazy to go to the hassle)
hi Ray.

i phoned for an insurance quote the other week. the company was a big name and i was amazed to get a guy on the other end of the line that spoke only pigeon english.
it was obvious he was reading from set questions. when i asked questions as regards to what he was asking me, he was lost ! i couldnt believe an insurance company would trust people that are NOT fluent in english to get and give important details accuratly......
in the end i gave up, phoned another company and spoke to a scotish guy who was laughing and joking with me as i gave him my details...

i couldnt trust my car insurance to a company that i didnt know was getting my details 100% correct.

I got to the point I am sorry to say I just said "OH p!ss off" and slammed the phone down,my wife looked at me like I was a loony, but I was so angry, I asked about five times pass me to your supervisor, all I got was "NO", that was clear enough.
i have car insurance with Norwich union. my god they are awful for call centres! my partner was talking to them the other day and the indian man kept saying 'basically' like evry 30 seconds. my partner ended up shouting : WILL YOU STOP SAYING BASICALLY!!!
Sheila's Wheels car insurance call centre is in India or somewhere similar. I CANNOT tell a word they are saying. At one point, (I think) they asked me if I'd like a quote on house contents insurance... I was actually in the process of calling round for quotes, but was so infuriated with having to try & work out what the guy was saying, I said no & ended the call... hence, they lost my business... & I doubt I'll renew with them this year as I just don't have enough patience to make that call.

I am glad it isn't just me that can't understand them, they want us to bank, insure etc with them and to be loyal to them, then they move all the call centres abroad,it is a joke .
Hi Ray hun.Don't talk to me about HSBC!! The other day I was put through to India and the woman kept insisting I didn't have the right account number of my own account! Barely understood a word she said, and when she did speak there was a stupid time delay on her reply - aaaggghhh!!!
I had a message from Carphone warehouse Talk Talk today asking telling me my bradband switch to them was nearly compleated.

The only thing is I havent switched nor do I want to. I phoned them up on the number provided and surprise surprise it was a call centre abroad. He couldnt understand me and I certainly couldnt understand him.

He referred me to another number same problem again so Hopefully my phone wont be switched or braodband but for all I know it will be because of the language barrier problem.

aaaaarrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh it annoys me so much why take the jobs away from the people that need them here!!!
Ooooh ..don't get me started ..I had a call from First Direct recently wanting me to take out a personal loan ..the reason being I have about a grand on my credit card .They are so scared they won't get their money ! Anyway said I would think about and would they send me the paperwork ..decided not to take it out as MR S ..who was an accountant by profession before we retired and is good with money matters ( thank goodness ! )said it was not worth it and I can pay it off soon anyway.Long and short of it ..they were really abusive when he had a word and told them we were not interested .
They had the cheek to ask all about my outgoings and incomings and by the sound of it had all the details in front of them They even had the cheek to ask where X amount of money came from each month !.Talk about big brother is watching you !!
I've had the same problems with HSBC and recently had someone ring me as I was dishing up dinner to tell me my account was 92 overdrawn (I'd forgotton to move some money around online) I explained I would sort it late online and she insisted I did it there and then or she would keep calling me back. I explained I was serving a meal and then going straight out and would put it right at about 9pm she then went through the whole spiel again about continuing to call me until I'd done it. I was furious and put the phone down as her english was so poor she obviuosly din't understand what I was saying.
I'm moving from HSBC anyway because my baranchis the one that was on Jeremy Vine show where they had dumped everyones statements and credit cards and letters in the skip behind the bank and we've had problems with odd payments coming out of our account ....which HSBC deny is possible!!!!!!!!
And I've obviously typed in pigeon english! Sorry...note to self read back before posting.
i have had dealings with Talk talk and they are atrocious, they don't know what you mean , i can't explain any clearer and then they threaten to hang up and say i have raised my voice!
I had the same problem with BT, they were my ISP provider but when I had problems it was a nightmare to phone to sort it out with someone who spoke barely any english. To try to explain really technical faults is bad enough but when you are not being understood to start with its unbelievable. I was so annoyed by it I switched my ISP provider to tiscali and never have any problems (so far) Personally I dont care where the call centre is based as long as the person on the other end of the phone has a good grasp of the english language
I never have any problem understanding anyone when I phone my bank."NatWest" as they say in thier adverts ,you can get straight through to your branch.
and no I do not work for NatWest.

Keith, you are a very lucky person, you are in a Minority, well done Nat West, HSBC on the other hand is becoming a real joke, well you know what they say, Pay peanuts, get Monkeys, and I do not mean that in a Rascist way for anyone coming on here to argue !!!
had one today - bloomin infuriating!!

i hate it when you say "pardon?" - and they say the same thing again in exactly the same way they said it in the first place!!
so, you have to ask again - and they say it again exactly the same!!
and so on....
- some random phrase or word spoken in such pidgin english its unidentifiable as a word.
