I have lived with a phobia called 'emetophobia'. Its a recongnised condition. I cant be near anyone that feels sick, or has a stomach upset for fear they may throw up. Cannot bear to see, smell, hear anyone throw up, I hate walking around town after a weekend as the streets outside the bars etc are always covered in pavement pizzas, YUK. I am rarely sick myself, and will do anythying possible to prevent myself from being sick, even if I have food poisoning.....anyone else have this phobia?

My 13 year old step-daughter does. She is terrified of being sick or seeing anyone else be sick. I don't think it's uncommom.
My daughter's friend suffered with the same thing.
I have a fear of being sick. Am 27 and haven't been sick since I was 7......

I beleive this relates to a fear of losing control. I also hate to be drunk.....but not sure if this is because of my fear of subsequently being sick!!??

However, I don't have a problem with people around me throwing up.
yeah im exactly the same! i hate it but i don't admit to anyone how i feel
I feel very uncomfortable with anyone around me who feels sick or is sick. But having children and now grandchildren it happens sometimes. But it is my one dread. Brenda x
I don't have the phobia, but I do immediately feel sick myself if I see or hear anyone else throw up. Or just see some sick on the ground. Oh and the smell....

I'm like it with spit as well though...makes me feel abit sick to see other people's spit on the ground.
What ever you do Roughquest don't call any of your kids Hughie :)
I have a phobia with lizards, ever since I was a kid and lived in Singapore and Malaysia, which, unfortunately, are tropical places and therefore full of lizards!

Even on holiday I try not to sit near plants or trees when i'm dining out. Extremely embarrassing when a grown woman of 30 pushes a random toddler out of the way and bursts into shivers and tears in front of a load of people on holiday, and then having to explain to the kid's parents about my phobia.

I'm not bothering to do anything about it though as there aren't any lizards in the UK, apart from pets.

Apart from that, I had a mate who had a phobia of buttons and went out with a guy who was afraid of large boats.
I am surprised you have this phobia as you don't have any problem discussing vomit, being sick and so on.

A true phobic would do all he could to avoid even thinking about it.
Your not alone, Rq

I can relate to zip's reply...

Can handle anything else...blood & gore...you name it...but not that! Freaks me out, big time!!

Ethel, when you have a phobia you cannot help but think about it. Thinking about it and the reality are very different scenarios i guess.

Same here TicTac, i wanted to be a nurse, as can deal with blood, gore and toilet things, but mouth issues - no way....stranger thing is I dont have a problem with animal sick.....whats that all about?
You are definitely not alone. I`m with you in every respect and to a certain extent agree with Ethel about talking/writing or reading about it. I`m the same with snakes too, but that`s another story.

Ethel, I have the same phobia, don't be surprised that Roughquest wants to discuss it, it's nice to know that you're not the only person to jump from one side of a room to the other at the hint of someone being sick. As for not thinking about it, it's impossible not to.
