Problems with people at work

I know what the simple answer to this is but i'd like to see if you guys have the same problem.
At work do any of you have that one (or more) person in your office who has a massive attitude problem. I do, they are are quite young still and they give a little bit of lip towards people and it really bugs me. Would you put them in their place or would you just wait for someone else too?

what do they have an attitude problem with? work in general or are they unable to deal with certain staff members?

Just their attitude towards members of staff, sweet as pie to certain people but others talks to like they are dog poo.
Report them to their line manager and ask them to have a quiet word.

Unfortunately this fell within my remit a few years back and as always there's two sides to every story. The staff member I had to deal with felt that the other staff there had formed a clique leaving her out and that they actively disliked her.

In the end I had to get the ringleader of the others and the staff member with the attitude in my office and had peace talks. Worked out fine in the end, just a big misunderstanding due to bad communication.
china doll is right. Speak to their boss and ask them to have a quiet word and see if theres a reason behind the behaviour.

China you sumed it up, we have a ring leader and her lapdog, then a few other "members". Its like the TV program bad girls. All the other members of staff are being left out. I'm not bothered about being mates with them as i come to work to well work not make mates. But i think other ppl are finding it hard to communicate with them.
This isn't really an age thing. I've just started a new job (been here about 2 months now) and I'm the youngest in the office at 23. Two of the other women are well into their 40s and think that they are the queen bees of the place and are constantly talking to people like dirt. Incidentally the other lady in the office is the oldest and spends most of her time on the receiving end of the attitudes that are quite frankly one step off bullying. If they speak to you in that manner then tell them directly not to as you wouldn't speak to them that way. However, they will probably believe it's not really you place to tell them how to speak to others and will more than likely "gang up" on you, although if they are being particularly nasty there is nothing wrong with sticking up for the person on the receiving end if they cannot do it themselves.
I have a similar situation!
I am the youngest in the company and I am always nice and chatty to everyone... many people tell me I am always cheery! I am the same with everyone in the company. Several times I have had people say 'How can you be so smiley this early in the morning?' and I love it. But there are one or two who seem to just walk past me with out saying anything or even a 'good morning' smile! They are all older than me so its nothing to do with the 'younger person attitude'! But I am sure its nothing that can be fixed... I think its just the way they are. I just let people get on with it. At the end of the day they don't know me and I know its something I can live with and work with so why bother causing problems?! You can't change people... only their opinions!
I just read Claireyfairys answer. I have been at my new job 2 months almost and I am the youngest at 22. :o)
I think if the remarks and ignoring are bordering on bullying then you have to do something about it but if its just someone's attitude towards people in general then there isn't much you can do!
Hi Ruby - The thing with my place is that there is a lot of b**ching all round. They're all at it so I stay out of it. The way things are if I agreed with someone when they said something it would probalbly get back to that person that I had just said it myself. I'm only here til January so I'm sticking to keeping my head down. However, my Aunty works in the HR department in the company and I have made her aware of the situation.
I certainly have people in my office with attitude!!! the list is endless, I know u all think I am taking the p1ss but there are some serious issues.... attitude is an understatement, but worry not the culling session is well under way!
girlygirl20. this may help and others in your position,if not it may give you a laugh. Once ther was a little sparrow who did'nt want to fly south for the winter. But as the weather became colder he changed his mind and decided to go. As he was flying his little wings got covered in ice and he fell to the ground, he had landed in a farmyard and he thought that he was going to die. Just then a cow came by and s--t on him and all of a sudden the ice on his wings began to melt and he felt quite warm and happy so he began to sing. Then a cat came by and heard him singing, so he moved the s--t and ate him. The are three things to learn from this story. 1 If anyone s--ts on you he is'nt necessarily your enemy. 2 If anyone gets you out of the s--t he is,nt necessarily your friend. 3 If your warm and happy in a pile of s--t keep your mouth shut.
