How to talk to a lady - GENUINE advice please

I'm single and a bit shy. I often see some nice looking women in the supermarket. I often smile at them and get a mixture of being ignored, looked at as if I have excrement on my face or (very seldom) a smile back. How do I actually strike up a conversation?

I also often see some nice ladies walking down the road when I'm driving. I think that if I just stopped and got out of the car, they'd feel threatened (and I can understand that), so how do say "hi" safely?

Hi wingnut - thanks for that advice. My friends are all in relationships and either a) have no single female friends or b) aren't allowed "out to play" by their other halves!

I've tried the "smiling and say hi", but as I said earlier, I get looked at as if I've asked them to drop their knickers or as if I've got excremement smeared on my face!

hi SurreyGuy, i'm single too and i find it very difficult to meet nice blokes. I am a nice woman with a good family and good friends-unfortunately they are all with partners so it puts guys off. i would love for a guy to come up to me in a bar and have a chat, or the supermarket!!
my advice to you is just be yourself and just be friendly and genuine.

How about joining a night class? Or maybe even a dating agency? Just to get more confidence and get use to talking to women. Hey how about speed dating? I wish I could help you more but I don't know what else to suggest other than to not give up hope, she's out there somewhere.

wingnut - I've tried numerous dating sites (see one of my previous posts) and got nowhere. Dating agencies seem to charge a fortune and (from what I've heard) produce next-to-nothing. I'm actually going to my local library this week to see what courses are on :o) I'd also like to try speed dating, but a bit nervous about going on my own.

As has been said, try looking helpless, down the herbs and spices is a good place, loads of questions and confusion there. Just smile and as for some advice, women generally can't help themselves, and if you are comfortable with humour that's the best weapon in your armoury!
When I was single I found funny men far more attractive than the good looking types.
