I've never heard of this in anyone else, but often when I drink, immediately after the very first sip of alcohol I take, the bones in my arms and down my back ache. It is a dull pain lasting for a few minutes, but I've no idea why. It's not a question of quantity, when I say one sip I mean just that, hardly anything. I just can't think what it could be! Any ideas? Thanks! (P.S. I'm a slim 20 year old lady if that's relevant!)

Well it works with any kind of alcohol: wine, beer and spirits, but it's particularly noticeable with red wine I find.
I get a warm achey feeling in my thighs and sometimes my arms when i have the first few sips of alcohol and lasts for a few mins, its just the alcohol getting into your system as far as i know
thats totally bizarre mate, it cant even be an allergy as you would presume the symptoms would get worse the more you drank.

does it stop if you keep drinking, or does it hang around until the next day?
Well i know red wine is meant to be a tonic for your blood and so maybe it is racing to your nether regions to do good works, so i wouldn't worry. Still never heard of it tho and i shall make some enquiries.
oh my god, weamdebest, that happens to me too!! Not every time but often I have taken, like you say, literally a sip, and then get a strong aching sensation, at the back of my head, kneck and shoulders, exactly as you describe, a dull pain and very uncomfortable. Im 24 and also slim. And your the only other person I know of who has experienced this!

Yay! I'm so happy about that! Stevie, it only lasts a few minutes - probably due to the anaesthetic effects of carrying on drinking through the pain! x
this happens to me every time I hav e a drink. I don't think it can be that unsual. I am now 54. I always say "That glass of wine has gone straight to my legs" I still enjoy having a drink though
its the fact that the lady describes it as "a dull pain" that has me slightly perturbed.
wooziness, loss of feeling, tingling, these are all understandable. but pain? not happy with that. dont mean to freak you out love but i'd be away to the docs, just to be sure.
happens to me too i thought it was just me being strange
Also happens to me!!!!!!!! Straight down my back! Not everytime I drink but when it does it's a horrible painful ache. It has only happened when I have sipped white wine. Other than white, I only drink either red or rose wine or lager, never happened when I drink them.
I seem to remember a documentary years ago filming European and Oriental people drinking alcohol in a restaurant ( set up research thing) and the Oriental people experienced a strange reaction to alcohol that was a physiological thing can't remember exactly, but basically it was saying that some people's make up have responses to alcohol that arn't the "norm" these are wooly memories so some bits might not be accurate, but I remember it being interesting.
I get exactly the same thing in every respect and I've never met anyone with the same thing. With me I have it particularly in the neck, arms and back and it is painful. I have found that you can "push through it" if you carry on drinking, but I hate it so much, I don't drink alcohol at all now. Nice cup of tea for me these days. I'm slim and female too :-)
I have it too but I get the pains in my arms and legs but it's a muscular pain as soon as I start drinking red wine.

It only happens with red wine but after my first glass it goes away and I'm fine again.

I have talked to my b/f about it and he said he said that alcohal must go into my blood stream very quickly but is baffled why it hurts.

It's like my arms and legs are lead weights and I can't move or lift them, do you get those feelings too weamdebest and daftpixie?? ta x

My legs aren't affected but my shoulders and arms do feel very heavy like you say. It's like extreme fatigue, like any movement is a real effort. Sounds like the same kind of thing. Poor little chickpeas that we are!
that happens to me after my first couple of drinks i get pains in my shoulders and arms all achey and heavy i thought was maybe the alcohol causes poor circulation?
