I think they are quite common but if you suffer from them a lot than it may be wise to speak to a GP. In pregnant women they can be a sign of pre-eclampsia and are often a sympton of migraines too.

thats interesting i do suffer with migranes and have done since i was 9 about the time the floaters turned up.
Do you get them at any particular times?
I have them really bad. Once while having an eye examination, the optician commented on me having a lot of them, I agreed and then he said "but they do go" my little face lit up and I replied "do they"? He then said yes, once your eyes focus on something, they settle down to the bottom of your eye (as soon as you move your eyes again they shoot back up into your line of vision) Doh!!!! I thought he meant that they can be gotten rid of. They are a nuisance.
Oh and I do suffer with migraines too
I noticed floaters after having my eyes lasered. Nothing to worry about apparently, but can't get rid of them :-(

I have loads of floaters. I am very short-sighted and have astigmatism and I think this is the reason why. I asked my optician about it and she said there's no way to get rid of them.
froggo. My partners just the same, hes a retained firefighter too and i can see how tiring that is.

redcrx. the floaters are in my right eye and thats the one i getthe migranes in/over or that side of the head any way
Id say speak to your optitian then I doubt its anything to be concerned about but best to ask a professional. I can only speak from personal experience.
Floaters are bits of the inside of the eye which have become detached. They are usually harmless (unless there is a sudden increase). I don't think you can get rid of them.

My oculist told me last years that floaters are dead skin cells, and nothing to worry about. Have to say that mine do change shape.

what about the migranes get them aswell?
hey there, just to say i have these in one eye. Its very annoying. I went to the doctor who sent me to the opticion and got full check and then at the end he said this is what they are but also said was something to do with age?
I have had several of these for a number of years. Some of the tiny ones have slowly disintegrated but others have unfortunately remained and my optician suggests that they will probably now be permanent. I believe that some of mine were caused by fairly violent coughing and sneezing atacks which cause small bits of membrane to break away.
