try natural live yogurt, avoid citrus and anything too fatty.

NOOO for gods sake stay well away from dairy!!!! that's the worst thing you can eat if you have diarrhoea.

You need to eat really bland food and small amounts. Rich tea/coffee morning biscuits are good. Drink lemonade or coke just make sure you shake the fizz out first. Both drinks are excellent for tummy upsets and especially coke.

rice and pasta is good too

I once had Gastroenteritis for 3 weeks and was at the end of my tether and called NHS direct and this was what the nurse recommended. And it cleared up after a couple of days

Doctors always recommend salty crackers and powerade or flat lucozade
Hi abi, If I were you I would just have some dry toast,it should not upset your tummy at all, give it a go,it does work, Ray
I agree with Ray, dry toast and lots and lots and lots, and them some more ... water.
trust me, when you 've lived in India for a while you learn about the runs! Anyway, this is from the US dep of health:

Applications:
1. To treat diarrhoea:

It has been shown that bacteria called Lactobacillus GG, which are added to some yogurts, are not digested, and colonize the walls of the large intestine. These bacteria fight harmful bacteria, including Clostridium difficile, which can cause diarrhoea after a course of antibiotics. In human tests, Lactobacillus GG stopped diarrhoea in people who had been ill with it for several months.

As long as 25 years ago, doctors in the US showed in a study of 75 infants hospitalized with diarrhoea, that those who were given only yogurt as a treatment recovered twice as quickly as those treated conventionally with a mix of neomycin, kaolin, and pectin.
Rich tea biccies, lots of water and dry toast or crackers.
Flat lemonade (add sugar to de-fizz it - just be careful it doesn't overflow!!) dry biscuits and crackers and dry toast (maybe a smidge of marmite!!). Drink loads and loads of water and definately don't have any dairy or fruit/fruit juices cos that will make you go more!! Don't worry too much about nutrition, just make sure you drink loads cos having diarrhoea makes you de-hydrated!! Hope you feel better soon!!
you need to make sure you are getting sugar and salt which draws water back into your circulation and prevents severe dehydration. This is the main thing to avoid. You can go without food for some days but stay well hydrated. If it is really bad you can buy oral rehydration therapy from the chemist which will keep you hydrated. If the diarrhoea is a more long term thing then it depends on the cause as to how you can keep well nourished.
Thompson's slippery elm food (from the health shop). You make it with milk but the elm makes it digestible & it puts a lining back on your tum.

I once had really bad diarrhoea when I was on holiday in Spain. The doctor over there told me to eat boiled rice & carrots ~ it worked a treat, & is a remedy I continue to use.

Your main priority is to maintain the balance of salts and sugars and take plenty fluids. Rehydration sachets eg diorolyte etc are great because they contain all the things you need in one go. Fluid wise, take small amounts often rather than gulping it down. Im still not convinced by the yoghurt thing jenky! Will read up on it though. Personally I would eat toast and crackers.x Alison
burnt toast and water does wonders!
get some arrow root biscuits they are great for your prob and they thicken it up if you no what i mean!!
