Started for no apparent reason and was over in 10 minutes or so. No other symptons, no pain, and the blood was bright red (i.e. fresh). Any medical experts out there please?

probably piles, get some cream and they should go away. have you strained lately? e.g. lifted anything heavy or the other sort of straining? if so, probably definately piles.
well i would get to the A& E ASAP

bright red usually indicates piles and you dont always get pain with piles so might well be them but i await your answer to poglets query before i make a further analysis

regards doctor bob

I agree properbly piles, but any passing of blood should be checked out
It is most likey to be piles ,, I know I have em !!
The blood from them is kinda scarey ,,,, so I am asking if when you ..yano wipe ? or wash do feel any lumps ???
If so then it is piles ...but in sayin that ...piles can grow inside as well .

Thanks for the advice people. It's not me by the way, it's my wife but she seems far less worried about it than me. I think I'll drag her to the doctor by her hair if necessary!
could be a FISSURE. an anal tear. those these tend to sting

If its bright red blood it could be piles, polyps or an anal fissure - altho with a fissure there is normally a ripping/tearing pain.

Go to the docs to get it checked but I'm pretty sure its nothing major to worry about - always better to be safe than sorry! Whichever of the above it is, they can be easily fixed!

only worry when the blood in stools is dark because this is old blood. Fresh blood is generally an indication of piles or a fissure, tear of the anal tissue. Go to your GP to put your mind at rest.
Re dot.hawkes' post, please don't go to A&E - make an appointment with your GP. Going to A&E is a waste of NHS resources and will mean others with a real accident or emergency will have to wait longer.
