I confess I am an alcholic of 10 years now, I am 36 years old. Last year at work I over exerted myself and suffered a back injury that is still with me today. The initial symptoms were typical of a back strain, then as the months went by I thought sciaticca (spelling?) but almost a year to the day later I woke up in agony. I can barely move at all and I have this massive body shape changing swelling over my left hip that is so painfull prevents me from standing straight or walking. I have an mri scan scheduled for the middle of next month but the follow up appointment won't have the results untill the end of may. I've run out of space

hello bellasasha, only c0-codamol which dosen't help at all. Yes I drink to kill the agony. I just cought a glimps of my reflection in the glass door and realised I'm seriously mishapened and I'm seriously worried. I've had pain in abdominal, lumber spine areas for months but foolishly laughed it off. This swelling is the size of a rugby ball and blown up over 24 hours and the pain is intense, I am not working now and am very depressed. please give me a positive prognosis

Hang in there kid, don't fall off the wagon, make sure you go back to the doc and talk, talk ,talk we are here, I will keep looking on here I promise, take it easy...

PK4 , i have been a recovering alcoholic of 20 years have not taken a dri nk for many years, never believed i could kick this awful addiction , it can be done with the right support, my family have been my biggest support although AA in the early years was a big boost too. Giving up drinking will help all your negative feelings but this will not come quickly. I hope you feel better real soon, yoiur other medical probs will im sure be able to be gotten over. I wish you well in everything.

Where are you PK4 ? get back on here & talk will you, Please!!

Thanks for everyones support, I'ts good to know some people care even for total strangers. I suppose I was feeling panicked when I submitted the question, I've seen the doc and been prescribed solpadol, diclofenac sodium enteric coated stuff and diazepam, the last one there I thinks going to save me. Had my first nigjts sleep without drink in years without the usual sweats, cramps nightmares etc.
I'm so glad you've got that sorted PK4 and congrats on the sleep! Chin up mate - things will get better from here - if you've got your MRI it means they are doing something towards getting you better! I've had MRI's and although the results take a while, it's quite a relief just having the scan cos you know that it's almost sorted! And if there is anything major going on they'll no doubt contact you sooner anyways!! So just keep smiling through the pain and think about how it will be when it's all better! And as has been said a few times before me - we are all here for you!!! Take care of you xx

Everyone has low days, so don't worry about it. As has been said before, this is the great thing about this site - everyone looks out for each other and gives help & advice in anyway they can - I only found this thread because I saw ktlou's question today, asking if anyone had heard from you!! Strangers can be both the biggest help and nicest of poeple from at times. So we are all here for you!!

Chin up mate!!

Sorry, just realised it was raysparkx today - but you get the picture!

Great to have you back PK4, don't fall off that wagon mate it's hard to get back on, we are here to listen as well as have a laugh, most people on here do care about what others are going through, you just take it easy and Talk,Talk,Talk oh and don't get doing to much when the pain goes away wait for results, Take care, wish you well, Ray
Just one more thing PK4,I can tell by the way you write you are highly intelligent, my dear old dad had a drink problem,he controlled it in later life, please don't let "it" control you, you are worth more than the price of the next drink, I was going to say cheers! but I will just say one day at the time, take it easy mate, all the best, Ray
How are you doing PK4 ? hope you are still on track and the pain is being kept at bay, let us know, take it easy, Ray

Hello, I'm relatively free of pain today, largely due to abusing my prescription pain killers and the 8 cans of holsten pills. Yes I cracked after only 2 days and if it wasn't for the anonymity I'd be too ashamed to post this. I suppose I've resigned myself to the inevitable.
Hi PK, Please don't go back on the grog, you know it won't get rid of your problems,it may dull or blur the pain for a little while, but try and think of the long term damage,And please STOP the overdoing the pills, especially if you are back on the cans, you are Wrecking your life, I have seen this before, when you feel week or the need for that "just one won't hurt" you know as well as I do,you will reach the point of no return,so come on try and resist, god I know it is hard, but you gotta try, I hope andy_hughes comes on here cos he can put it into words a lot better than me,just take care, and try that bit harder,Ray
Hi PK, have you thought about asking your GP to arrange for some pain management classes for you..these are sometimes useful in helping to reduce the amount of pain relief medication that you have to take! I gather that you have some mobility problems but perhaps transport or home visits can be arranged! Don't know how much support you have but I'm sure that someone from AA would be available to give some help. Chin up and please keep posting to let us know how you're doing! Take care x
