Nerve Damage?

I think I have damaged the nerve in my thumb, (using an electric staple gun).
There is no pain in my thumb, but it feels like I have been holding a bag of frozen peas for too long ( if you know what I mean) and it feels kind of numb and tingly at the same time.
I have had this for over a week now, do you think it will get better?, is it worth getting medical help? (As I don't want to waste the time of a Dr just to tell me yes that is what you have done and no there is nothing we can do).

It details something called Vibration White Finger, which sounds likely what you are experiencing. I work in construction and this is fairly common place for people working with hand held tools
