Why Do I Forget What I Was Going To Google, And How Do I Recall It?

I just sat down to ask google a question, saw something interesting on the page of subjects that comes up when I click on Firefox, read it and couldn't remember what I was going to ask (now I've just remembered it -- Newton's Second Law). Does this happen to (nearly) everyone? What's the best way of getting back to where you were? Just rely on chance? The second part is more important than the first.

It's quite simple really, why it happens. You think of something you need to do, perhaps it might be in another room, but on the way there you think of of something entirely different, so when you get there, you've forgotten what you went for. There are a few ways round this. happens more as you get older.

When you click on a link, try holding the CTRL key down. That should open the link on a new tab but leave your original page still there for you to look at.

I'm forever going down the rabbit hole when I'm on the internet, read lots of fascinating things I didn't know I was interested in them forget the very thing I had to know.

Lose hours like that sometimes

There are a few ways round this. Sometimes I will say the thing I want over and over again so I can't get distracted or I write it down.

If I'm in bed and I think of something I need to do the next day, I put a memo on my phone.

The older we get, the more information we have in our brains, and sometimes I feel we have too much info in there. If I am trying to think of a name that I know I should know, it will come to me eventually, it just takes time to get itself to the front of my brain.

Well, that is how I look at it.

in order to get back to Newton's second law you must first overcome inertia.

I was going to answer you, but I've forgotten what I was going to say.

Whenever I see a term on a webpage that I want to Google, I drag the cursor over that term to highlihht it, right-click and then  select "Search Google for . . .".

There's no delay that way, so I don't have time to forget what it was that I was interested in.

If memory serves me well, it happens regularly to us oldies. And another thing, I often get distracted and er, something or other ???

new tab - - control-h will tell you your browsing history

( clearly not where you wish to go)

what do I do to summon the memory - rehearse what I was saying at the time

Yes, it happens to me all the time. It did even when I was 25.

Nothing to worry about.
